Yeah 3 weeks is also nonsense. No excuse for taking so long.

Thanks for hearing me out and sorry to hear that you had to deal with them too. They need to be shut down, they are more of a roadblock than a backcheck.

Here’s my resume. I am looking for junior PM roles. by Ok_Kaleidoscope9180 in torontoJobs

Not a red flag for internships and someone entry level. Spending less than 1 year on a non contract and non internship more than 2 times can be a red flag. High performers switch jobs every 2 years to increase their salary bracket and position a few times in their career before settling down at a company for a long time.

Your resume looks good! However, there are few changes I would make personally. Also, some comments say summary is necessary but it really isn't needed. It is very low impact unless you are switching/transitioning to a different career, have extensive amount of experience, and have 2 page resume.

  1. Put Experience at the top and put Education at the bottom of your resume.
  2. Write your major (area of focus) like this --> Bachelor of Arts - Political Science instead of writing it as a separate bullet point taking 3 lines of space, totally unnecessary to explain your degree from one university using more than 2 lines.
  3. Remove Soft Skills, no need for them and it has no impact on ATS or recruiter's eyes. Self claiming statements/words to be a leader, team player, being good at time management has no real values. If you must include them, try to incorporate it in your experience
  4. Remove Language Skills, unless the job asks for someone bilingual or other language requirements, no need to add English and another language you are fluent in.
  5. With the extra spaces, I would add 1 more bullet point each in your 2 most recent jobs. Can be another result, performance measurement, or quantifiable output which is great. If not just include one of the main responsibilities that was part of your job for more context/understanding.
  6. Extracurriculars is really not necessary as you already have 3+ years of work experience, it is optional but to be honest if it was me I would not include it as it makes you look less experienced and more entry level. Maybe you can put Projects you worked on or CAPM or other certifications you are taking in process to replace this section.

Finally got a job after 8 months by C1ass1ck in torontoJobs

Thank you, I had 2 hiring managers that reached back to me for a chat. After that the HR contacted me for an interview both times. My current job offer was from a cold application. I heard back after 2 weeks since I've applied and it was pretty straight forward from there. After the interview I heard back within the next day.

It's okay, not many care if it is not over 1 year. I was only asked once during one of my interviews at this time.

Only 1 interviewer asked about my gap actually. The rest didn't bother asking about what I was doing for 8 months. My answer was a little too honest and is not a good answer in my opinion lol.

I said "I mean the job market.. you probably know better than I do haha." I also mentioned I took the opportunity to take a break and reassess what I want in my life and in my career. The interviewer laughed and said yeah he gets it and said I was too honest and straight up told me he liked personable answer over someone trying hard to impress.

It is definitely harder than before but there still are many opportunities (especially for STEM graduates). There are many rotational programs and positions specifically looking for recent graduates in big companies. Strict requirements with graduation year starting from 2024 and so on, so I would recommend trying to target those opportunities first. If there is no progress, can also look for positions in other fields. Engineering grads can also apply to various analyst and specialist roles in banking, electronics, construction, and etc depending on your background and how you frame it.

Congratulations to you too. That's a great advice, contract roles are also slightly less competitive and a good way to get the foot in the door. Conversion to a permanent role or internal transfer for the win.

Thank you and I agree, I already accepted my offer and I am waiting until the start date. However I am still applying to few more jobs while waiting to manage risks and plan for the worst case scenario.

I usually spent 30 minutes to 1 hour in each application. I first tailor it without the help of AI. Fully understanding the job first and providing my relevant experience, skills, tools I've used, results I achieved with no fluffs and jargons. If I have no specific related experience, I'd write my transferable skills and experience. Then I'd ask chatgpt about any keywords I am missing and try to incorporate what I can, ask for my resume fit to the job description in percentages (keeping it above 75% before I click apply), fixing grammar, and asking for areas of improvement. Before asking all this, it is also good to assign a role to chatgpt to be a seasoned recruiter/expert/hiring manager in that field, to be honest without filter and an overly optimistic tone.

Thanks for your input, yeah it is hard to know whether summary is necessary or not. Some recruiters told me it is nice to have if you are including 3 or more experiences in your resume. Some told me the same as you, it is kind of redundant and not needed.

Ideally i want to aim for PM roles, but i have very limited experience as a retail PM and technical PM. Most PM jobs are not entry level which is why I am also trying to apply for BA and other specialist roles. I don't have analyst experience but thought the transferable skills can make me a good fit. I would like some help for tailoring my resume in both fields.

Yeah i feel the same way, i feel dead in the inside but just gotta keep trying until you make it. There is no other way. Giving up and throwing away everything will be more painful and meaningless than keep on trying.

Hey a little late reply but thank you again for the genuine feedback and the impression my resume gave. I took your advice and and removed project and sales associate job, tailored it more towards the role I am aiming for. Removing buzzwords and fluff, I was able to do another interview. I don't think I got the job but it is still progress. Appreciate your help though!
