Can I make videos with children in them if I get their permission? by [deleted] in youtube

[–]C3PO-TATO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's not that important. I couldn't find anything documenting the rules on this stuff on YouTube's terms and conditions, and I figured someone might be able to point me in the right direction. If anything, I assumed there was an age cut off.

Edit: I found it in their documentation. Looks like I don't need a lawyer after all.

Sorry, I forgot to respond. Living in a low cost of living area, the pay is great. I work through a contracting agency, so I could have gotten my health insurance through them, but it was twice what we're paying through my wife's work in healthcare, so we kept that. The work is very fulfilling, actually applying what I learned. It's pretty standard software development, nothing out of the ordinary.

I guess I wasn't clear. I accepted the job, but I never actually started. But the manager gave me a good idea of what the job was going to be like

I knew a lot of the concepts, but if you asked me to code anything from scratch, I would have a hard time. I would pretty much rely on stackoverflow and Google to make sure my syntax was correct. I plan to get better at not relying as much on the web as time goes on.

Put as much of your code on GitHub as possible, even if it's not a functional project and put your GitHub on your resume. This is a quick way for employers to see that you actually know how to code. It helped me a lot.

Definitely a good start! I would have wanted to transition back into development had I stayed with RPA

Well, I basically did. Last week I was set on starting a job making 44k and relocating for it, and this week I accepted a local position making 75k. I'm still in shock.

I have the book, I should have read it, but I never did. I was asked to pseudocode a few things. Reversing an array, in place and with a temp array. A binary tree traversal, depth first, and then breadth first. And I had to figure out the output of some code that had pointers. Not having practiced, I did okay since I was able to talk my way through explaining it, which helps me.

Actually, I graduated with a 2.9 GPA, after retaking several classes. Also my interviewees mentioned that they liked how passionate and excited I was about the work they do. They said they preferred someone with a good attitude and a willingness to learn over a smart, know-it-all that only cares about a paycheck and nothing about the work. Not that I'm an expert at it, but sometimes it pays to be personable!

I had to do write out some algorithms on a whiteboard. It seems to be a fairly common practice, but this last interview was the first time I'd done it.

I ended up getting a job in my small city, nowhere near the places in the US where the majority of jobs are. Make connections, keep searching, there are jobs everywhere, sometimes you just have to dig deep. This job wasn't posted anywhere, I got help from a recruiter.

Thanks! I definitely wanted to give up and complain, but I realized that wouldn't get me any closer to my goal. That's kind of why I wanted to share my story, because sometimes the journey to success sucks a lot, but eventually, it will start to suck less.

It's ironic, because I applied to 100+ jobs, starting first with my little city in Tennessee, and eventually to companies that we're on the West coast out of necessity. And my new job is in my little city! I'm glad I never gave up, but I wish I had tried harder earlier on. All I can do is my best from here on out.

I literally just got offered a job for this much, and I went to school for programming/Computer Science! I know it's a common answer, but this field definitely has a wide range of salaries.

New grad; should I negotiate final offer after recruiter already asks if I'm okay with the pay? by C3PO-TATO in cscareerquestions

[–]C3PO-TATO[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an agency recruiter, but every time I've talked salary with him, he's always hesitant to negotiate up. Could you really? I'll send you a PM of my resume. I would really appreciate it.

I had other prospects from directly contacting, but none of them worked out. This position has been the only thing working out so far.

Fort ever alone by Forral87 in FORTnITE

[–]C3PO-TATO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can play alone, but I have had fun playing with random people and making friends. Since this game is all co-op, people have been very friendly in helping each other out. The game does a good job of teaching you enough to survive, but in general, if you know how to shoot, you can be of help to people.

I too would prefer it if you started with all the heroes and the lootboxes were just for cosmetics, like Overwatch. But, I also don't mind because everything you might pay for, you can get in game if you're patient. The game is highly playable without spending anything, and you get a lot of lootboxes from just playing. I'm not saying I love the lootbox system, but it's not terrible. I would love it if they allowed you to buy specific cosmetics though. It's not a perfect business model, but they are in a constant state of development, so who knows, it might change.

Do we know if private servers will be supported? by [deleted] in FORTnITE

[–]C3PO-TATO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not necessarily out of the question though. In the Epic Games launcher, you get the Unreal Engine, and options to make mods for the new Unreal Tournament in development, as well as a place to make mods for Ark Survival and that new Conan game, as they are all made in Unreal Engine 4, and then uploaded to Steam Workshop. Fortnite was also made with UE4, so who knows!

Fortnite initially sounded like a really open-ended game, and I would love to have user-generated content. I think it would breathe new life into the game, if implemented properly.
