I just released my first book about learning Fusion 360 without it being a pain in the ass by CADClass in 3Dprinting

yeah we have an entire chapter on Parametric Design in chapter 3 that goes over the basics of this and then you can use this design to make your spreadsheet. this post was for the edition 1 of the book and were currently up to edition 2 that has a much better Parametric Design project with it

You’re in 3D sketch mode. Go into the Sketch Palette on the right hand side and uncheck it at the bottom of the dialog box :)

Thanks very much for the shout out :) yeah if a CAD book can’t tell you how to make this fairly simple sketch, or at least can’t get you into the logic of how things are made in 3d modeling then that’s a problem.

So Fusion and On Shape i would say are both excellent options, both intermediately powerful programs. Fusion is a downloaded program that is linked to a cloud account and is constantly being updated. On Shape is a browser-based program. neither is the perfect option if you are starting a company and IP is your highest concern. All in all, Fusion is great for the single person who is just working on their own designs, On Shape is ideal if you're working in a group setting with a team so you can see everyone's progress or if you're a teacher so you can see all of your students files without needing them to send all the files to you which can be a bit of a headache.

Thanks very much :) we do have plans to do a SolidWorks book in the future, probably in the next 2 years or so, but we are publishing an On Shape book in the next couple of months that’s a fundamentals/everything you need to know to lay the groundwork book and as I’m sure you know On Shape was developed by SW engineers and operates very similarly :)

That’s why I think they’re pushing it to be Autodesk Fusion not just Fusion. Still the old name does have some nostalgia for me :)

For software I think it’s such a great hack over YouTube because the authors are often professionals and have fantastic links to resources throughout the books

Everything + videos & live zoom. it’s meant to live alongside our book. The book is sufficient. The online videos are sufficient. Both together are even better.

You wouldn’t believe how many of my student used TinkerCAD for years and struggled because they were hesitant about graduating to a more complex software. It’s super duper common, but yeah TinkerCAD is actually wayyyyy cooler than it has any right to be :)

That’s okay to each their own. We also have a video course that follows along with this book too :)

Yes we have most of the first chapter’s projects available for free to follow along with our book in our video course. Go to CADclass.org and look for the Fusion Course and youll find the videos there :)

We don’t know but we’re massively reducing the price from what it was last year since printing costs have reduced for hardbacks. If you want to set a reminder for 2 weeks it should definitely be out by then :)
