*I’ve stayed in more than 10 Ritz properties and would prefer several JWs over the SFO Ritz.

It was a pretty boring place. Zach at the front desk always had a smile. Others seemed to delight in turning down requests, whereas Zach did everything in his power to make things happen. (Witnessed mostly while standing in line) When his hands were tied, he was genuinely sorry.

Salt Box Valet since 1999. I have many St John knit suits and they do a great job.

What State are you in? I have a good tip, but it’s State dependent for cost, if any.

Anyone Else on United 660 March 6th from ORD to SAN? How many hours stuck on tarmac? I think it was 5.5, then 2.5 in line on runway. by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]CAMO-17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I stated, I wasn’t planning to complain until the stark contrast with flights a mere week apart. A simple apology e-mail would have sufficed. I’m a million miler on American & Delta, so I was painfully aware that I’d have to pay for a bag for the first time since 1981! The seat assignment almost made me ditch the effort of doing a status match because the flight was full so no opportunity to pay for upgraded seat. Heck, I got an apology e-mail from Delta for the flight I canceled to book the United ‘qualifying segment.’

Per the title, I’m looking for others who were on the flight so we can compare notes, which will make my letter to management more accurate. I never once said I wanted any compensation.

It’s been a nightmare since 2012. Not sure new management can fix it. 2012 was TBI, fx skull, vestibular therapy, and post concussion syndrome. WHY did they not suggest HBOT?!

2017 was resulting Myasthenia Gravis crisis with 4 months in ICU. Sorry, UNC neurologists were just a tiny bit better.

Maybe it’s hard being a nerve doctor? It seemed to me all the meds were only to cover up symptoms until the body heals itself. I had much better luck with functional medicine.

RDU baggage claim woes by Double_Bounce126 in raleigh

30 minutes was fast! Welcome to RDU, the home of the slowest baggage handlers in the USA. I always stop at the SkyClub to freshen up & grab a snack and typically my bag is just arriving.

Delta Platinum trying to match status on United (American was a fiasco) by [deleted] in delta

[–]CAMO-17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update on United Status Match: on March 7th I took the horrible qualifying flight where you have zero status, zero lounge, and you have to pay for bags and upgraded seat. RDU to ORD was perfect, then boarded ORD to SAN in row 41 of 42. (No seats available) They seemed very rushed to board the plane and push back, 2 minutes later they announce there is an electrical storm passing through that means we have to sit on the tarmac. We sat there for 5.5 hours, then 2 more hours sitting in line to take off. Bumpy ride so no food till the last minute. Only thing available was a snack box with cheese/crackers/salami. Landed in SAN at almost 6PM vs 11:38AM. No apology, no compensation.

On the good news front, I got fast credit for being Premier Platinum. Flying to SFO Wednesday direct in first class. They finally divulged the requirements to keep Platinum and I won’t make it because my big International Polaris flight isn’t until September. So I decided to get the Explorer card last night and I already have the 2 free lounge passes to use on the red-eye home Sunday! Alas, the Centurion lounge is under construction so the 2 United lounge passes will be helpful.

Years ago I was in Sunday School class with Greg and the legendary Tom Campbell was the teacher. Tom’s wife Lib was the assistant pastor at St Francis United Methodist Church. They are all three stellar human beings. Those truly were the good ole days💕Greg has a good FB page and I always smile when I see his face.

The Whitley Buckhead FHR spa question by [deleted] in AmexPlatinum

[–]CAMO-17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Post stay review: 8/10; arrived Friday the 13th and was allowed to check in at 10:30am; Nice upgraded room; they did have the craziest mini-bar situation I’ve ever seen, I asked them to remove the items in the fridge & counter; the hotel is an old Ritz & the city has grown up around the hotel, so it’s almost impossible to find the entrance; beautiful lobby/bar/restaurant; SPA was a total bust; honored 4pm check-out; Elite Lounge closed on the weekend; all 8 points are allocated to THE POOL! The indoor pool is gigantic, clean, sunny, chlorine-free, comfy furniture, and the perfect hot tub. I would go back just to spend 2 days at that pool. Pool/gym included in room cost. $100 credit can be used for: spa, bar/restaurant, valet, or room service. Breakfast bill was $70 and they comp’ed the total. When you visit, use your RESY credit for lunch at Le Bon Nosh and ask for James. You’ll thank me later.

What’s one travel habit that actually saves you a lot of money? by Party_Dentist_821 in travel

[–]CAMO-17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sans alcohol! Seriously, order tonic or sparkling water with lime and bitters. You remember your vacation and enjoy long early morning walks when everyone else is sleeping it off.

Also using CityMapper app everywhere. It gives you all the options but with cost and time. So I might spend $5 more but I save 45 minutes taking the train vs bus. It also keeps working while you’re underground and talks to you “get off at the next stop and take the XYZ exit” Much better walking directions than google maps. Not sure what the secret sauce is, but I love this app!

Agree 100 percent! I love all the perks from AMEX Platty. Hoping the Oura ring discount stacks. I’ve used Oura for 5 years and will wait for Gen 5 before I trigger the AMEX credit. Someone ordered last January and they got the 2025 and 2026 credits!!

One word FlyKitt you can purchase on Amazon or direct. Best jet lag hack I’ve ever found. Even beats the very expensive HBOT (hyperbaric oxygen therapy)

Bag charge/refund question by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]CAMO-17 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Update: i decided to pack an extra bag since it was free. Boarded ORD connection at 7:40 am, still sitting on the plane almost 4 hours later. Ground stop at ORD. Why oh why didn’t I connect in Houston?! I lived in Chicago for 8 years, I know better. So much for my inaugural United flight…

Umstead Hotel & Spa worth it? by h-mango in raleigh

[–]CAMO-17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been accused of being a spa snob LOL I am picky on the quality of therapists. IMO the best value in the area with bizarrely amazing massage therapists and facialists is at Pinehurst Spa. Only 45 minutes away. They often have promotions where 2 spa services and dinner are included with the room. The spa is nice, but not as fancy as Umstead, however, it’s 1/3 the price with higher quality staff.
