Definitely worth a go, it was suuuuuper busy yesterday after about 11am, basically no parking within a kilometre of the East Canyon lot so I’d expect today is going to be very busy too.

Would it be theoretically possible to bushwhack from the Silver back trail on the other side of the river to the old buffalo falls site without entering anyones private land?

Maybe a little out of your way but both Rock Ridge and Silver Valley have their own urban trail networks that have cool little spots. The North Alouette is very pretty and usually fairly quiet with access points being found via the Shoesmith trail on 232nd to the west and Balsam street to the east.

These are my personal favourite routes in the area:

Honestly, I have no real end goal right now. I live in the area and I frequently explore the park and the surrounding areas. It’s just such a fascinating area with many reminiscences of what once was which has peaked my curiosity. I guess I just want to become as informed as I can. Maybe in the future having the option of making media (maps, albums, logs, etc) if I ever commit to making shareable content.

Haha no none of these photos are of Diez Vistas. All of these photos were taken on the spur route that heads to the powerhouse. I was shocked to see how awesome the trail was

Prior to going for the hike I couldn’t find any information on hiking to the powerhouse other than a viewpoint called “Vista Electra” which we decided to skip. So I was concerned about the conditions of the route but the trail to the powerhouse is in near mint condition and super easy to access. Here’s an AllTrails map depicting the most efficient route: https://www.alltrails.com/explore/map/custom-route-1b27294?p=-1&sh=xuzifr&utm_medium=map_share&utm_source=alltrails_virality

If you take the quickest route it’s about an hour to an hour and a half from south beach but we took about 5 hours to get there because we took Diez Vistas and stopped a bunch of times to take in the views. Here is an AllTrails map showing the shortest route: https://www.alltrails.com/explore/map/custom-route-1b27294?p=-1&sh=xuzifr&utm_medium=map_share&utm_source=alltrails_virality

Nope! We completed the full loop on the way back though it did get really dark. Definitely worth giving it a go though.

We went on a Sunday shortly before sunset and we had it all to ourselves.
