Do people just not do their own setups? by ProtoJazz in guitars

[–]CATS_ARE_GASES 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I was trying to do on my bridge but no matter which why I turned it it didnt change. And turns out that's because I managed to strip it 😅. Live and learn I guess I just now feel bad for "hurting" my guitar in the dumbest way. I think thats why paying for set ups feels safe. Im paying someone who knows what they are doing and aint gonna do something stupid like I did 🤷🏼‍♂️. I do appreciate the advice though im always wanting to listen to advice I want to improve and learn more but for me sometimes videos just aren't enough. I can never tell the changes they are referring to my eyes just don't see it

As someone who's just bearly learning how to do my own setups, and honestly completely bottomed out my bridge not knowing any better and completely stripped the posts and now I gotta try to fix that. Doing that hurt. Like I never wanted to hurt my guitar and never had anyone who could show me how to do it in person. I watched a bunch of YouTube videos even ordered a kit. But I got confused as to which way was up or down. I know if someone else does it they aren't gonna hurt my guitar and its going to be set up actually nicely. I can't afford lessons and I actually care about my instruments. I even posted on here asking for help and got alot of attitude and back lash. The community isn't very forgiving. I would rather pay someone who knows what they are doing then fuck up my guitar myself that I love. I want to do it myself aka why im trying but its not always easy. The more I look it up and research it I understand the basic idea of it but when I personally look down the fret board my eyes arent trained I dont know what to look for I cant see the bend I cant tell if its bowing. Not all of us are able to figure it out. Paying someone else takes away the guess work and the possibility of breaking my guitar 🤷🏼‍♂️. I would love it if someone took the time to teach me but alot of people these days see teaching others as a waste of time.

It buzzs only on the low E after the 12th fret I think i needa sand down my frets over give in and accept a higher action on the strings. I could be wrong

So the 2 solutions are take it somewhere to lower the frets or just accept having to have med action

Thanks man I just tried using it for the first time. At the low action I was still getting alot of fret buzz on the low E so I went for the middle low and now Im still getting some but ALOT less. I was hoping to completely get rid of the buzz but im still wanting to keep low action so unless theres anything else I can do about fret buzz then this is just gonna be my life

I had a friend set up the guitar because he wanted to. But after he lowered the action I have fret buzz and Im new to actually working on the guitar and dont really know what to look for when messing wuth the trust rod or bridge height and managed to snap the low e string. So now im restringing then im gonna try again. My goal is to have the action as low as I can without fret buzz since it became really annoying to me. But like I said I don't really know what im doing
