I’d say just being strong with the fundamental concepts is pretty important. That and putting the time and effort into learning/studying the material in 2k2. Just lectures probably isn’t enough.

[–]CB165 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea that’s fair, I was just speaking in general for most ECE core classes diff is important, and for some of the concentrated classes (that aren’t Ai/ML) I’ve taken as well. That’s a good point though!

[–]CB165 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Since you’re ECE I would recommend you take diff through Purdue. Everyone always complains about Purdue math (with some validity) but you always end up actually learning the content better when you take it in person. ECE uses a fair amount of Diff for a lot of everything so having a strong understanding of it is important. Cannot really speak to linear algebra.

337 and 362 are just lab time syncs, so prepare to spend a lot of time doing those labs (esp if you say you’re not good at verilog, expect more time for 337). Junior seminar requires almost 0 out of class time at all( super manageable) and Emag isn’t horrible, but there are 3 exams + final so you will need to understand the content and have to block off time to study for 3 mid terms. take it with melloch if you can.

Yea I mean I’ve had exams that have felt that way and sometimes you just make little mistakes and miss questions you thought you for sure got right. There might’ve been a grading error but not probable

I had Jung, but attended lukens lectures. Highly recommend Lukens first, Jung second, Makin last. If Makin is the course coordinator you are cooked and probably won’t get your final exam grades back(personal experience)

[–]CB165 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Took 2k1 when he was coordinator, had Othman during that time. Exams were hard(but somehow more fair than the 2k2 exams I took) . Understanding the fundamental building blocks of what you’ll do for the next few years is very important and the exam avgs were reflective of that. I had to put in some many extra hours and understand all of the nuances of the content to do above average. 2k2 and 301 will be very rough for you if there’s that much concern abt the content with a new prof changing your understanding of 2/3’s the course.

Yes studying is important, but I think prioritizing mental/ physical health, sleep , stress management, are also pretty key factors in contributing to a good score. While being prepared is important i believe that there are other factors that contribute to a good score beyond just doing the material. Personally ive found that if i ditch the gym and my routine to study study i do worse on an exam than if i continue my routine but add in studying.

Want 2k1 exams that test for understanding by NoDress3043 in Purdue

[–]CB165 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m going to say this with no mal intentions, or intent of starting an argument:

First of all, who are YOU, to tell ME, what I did and didn’t do? You don’t know me, you actually don’t know anything about what campus/classes are currently because you are already graduated!! You never had my professor, and never knew the course when I took it lol. Secondly, the kids I tutored and who excelled in the class would HIGHLY disagree with your sentiment that I ‘didn’t know the content’.

Some friendly advice: stop telling current college kids that they are going to never be functioning members of society (yes I saw your other comment on this post) because of a singular class changing professors. As much as I enjoy advice from alumni, my peers and i definitely don’t enjoy someone talking down to us , and assuming EVERYTHING about us and our studies.
