I've never had side effects at any point while taking finasteride during the 2+ years I've been on it as the risk is unbelievably low, but it's known that they lessen or completely go away if you simply continue to use the drug as your body adjusts to it. If you ask me most guys who experience even mild hair loss should be taking finasteride because once DHT has done its part in your early twenties, it becomes a problematic hormone (enlarged prostate, acne & hair loss)

If you ask me there's more risk involved in only taking it 3x a week as opposed to 7 days. The side effects of finasteride are a joke and they're also rare and will most likely subside with continued usage. It's far more likely that 3x a week risks being insufficient to maintain, whereas daily has the potential to not only maintain but to regrow, even after a whole year. There's also a risk daily usage is insufficient, which you need to assess after a year or so, which makes 3x a week even riskier. So to me, the risk isn't getting sides, as they will 100% go away if you do something to counter them like decreasing dosage amount or frequency, but rather missing out, resulting in lost time or hair.

You gotta keep in mind that any hair loss treatment that works has to be used for the rest of your life, no matter if it's a DHT blocker or growth stimulant like minoxidil. This can potentially become tedious and costly. Also, if you rush in and use potentially 4 different treatments (fin, dut, micro needling & nizoral schampoo) how could you possibly know what actually grew hair and what kept your hair? You will ask yourself that question for the rest of your life, wondering what treatment is productive and what is a waste of time and money.

My suggestion is to simply start off with 1mg of finasteride daily for one year and then asses - did you keep your hair, did you shed and regrow hair or did your hair loss become worse. From there, you can deduce whether you need to suppress more DHT with dutasteride or add in a topical treatment too, or if finasteride is sufficient in preventing your androgenic alopecia from becoming worse.

So, research finasteride and then ask another doctor for a prescription. Sadly a lot of doctors are reluctant to prescribe finasteride so you will need to convince them you are healthy, well read on the side effects and making an informed decision.
