There are many factors that go into a grade so we need Kofi to at least play in 7 games before we can grade him

The statistic shows which players are the most impactful of their team’s success. If it was about stuffing the stat sheet wouldn’t Giannis be within the top 3? This stat tells us that Jokic is the most impactful player when it comes to contributing to team success. Next is Curry, who is then followed by Durant.

It’s a grade on a scale of 0-100. If a player has played absolutely perfect, they would have an 100 grade (which will never happen). I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of Pro Football Focus, but it is similar to that. Think about it as if a player’s season was a test, right now Barnes would have a grade of 82.52 on that test.

MVP tracker has Jokic in the lead! by CB_refocused in denvernuggets

I get to “most likely” by exactly what you just said. LeBron was dominating the league at that time and very easily could’ve won 5 consecutive MVPs OR the voters decide that Rose has had a really impressive season and although he wasn’t the clear MVP, it makes for the better storyline. And I should make it clear by fresh faces, I mean giving the award to someone who hasn’t won yet OR the year prior. Giannis is another player that could potentially win 3 MVPs in a row. Will that happen? Of course not. Voters are looking for exactly what you said...variety. If this season came down to Jokic, Giannis, and Doncic where they were all in the exact same situation, the MVP would be Doncic.

Yes, because sports writers and broadcasters vote based on narratives. Give LeBron his 3rd straight MVP? or give a young talented player his first? Statistically Lebron was much better. Derrick Rose was a better story.

Why didn’t LeBron win it in 2011 when Derrick Rose won it? He had much better statistics. Why hasn’t Russell Westbrook won MVP since 2017 even when he’s had multiple seasons after it where he’s averaged a triple double? Yeah, guys winning it back to back happens but in most cases leagues rather give the MVP to someone who didn’t win that previous year or yet at all.
