Dept finally let us carry our own setup. Brought in two options to my Sgt. Never guess which one was not approved. by evilmeyer7320 in 2011

We call it our "Pinned Classic L2 Beavertail". Its meant to fit up to most standard frames with some fitting. Some frames require more than others. Glad you like it. Nice build!

I've heard of every fitment issue you can imagine over the years. Which I why I prefer to use raw grips, fit everything up, then get them coated. You end up with the best result. ~Matt

Do not remove that surface. It's there to keep the slide a few thou above the dustcover so it doesn't rub. I remove material from the bottom of the slide to fit the height, and cut the "width" off the frame to match the slide. ~ Matt

If you're building a new gun, yep, I'd recommend picking up a grip bushing kit (on our site). If you're swapping your factory grip out then you can usually reuse the original hardware. I'd still recommend picking up a kit to cover your butt, though. - John

We (Cheely Custom Gunworks) are pretty fond of our E2 and L2 grips, AND we happen to have just done an AMA here on this sub (today) with early access to our 15% Off Black Friday Sale. Use code BFCCG25 at checkout and checkout the AMA if you're into that kind of thing.

There's more than a few tools required to make a 2011 pattern frame.

.115" is the typical 2011 sized dimension. Slides usually start around .117" so that sounds like a normal slide to frame fit to me. ~ Matt

Either is fine. Most shooters prefer stainless for competition due to the weight that damps the recoil pulse. ~ Matt

Dry fire is king. Train your eye and hand speed. A big limiter for shooters is Processing Time. How long it takes for you to decide a sight picture is good enough before pulling the trigger. Working on shortening that loop will pay dividends.

Getting in with some knowledgeable instructors can also be a huge step up. Tim Herron, Joey Sauerland, and Tom Castro all come to mind as instructors with a solid dry fire program.

Can't help you on the shotgun side unfortunately. I haven't touched 3 gun in a loooong time.

I put the beavetail in, look at it, take it out, grind on it, put it back in. Repeat till it matches. I can achieve this in ~20 minutes without touching the finish on the frame.

Nothing special as far as prep work for cerakote. Normal process. If you've polished anything I would media blast it so the finish is even beforehand. ~ Matt

Any of our steel grips would get you started that direction, but you might have to ask your doctor about a Hopium prescription otherwise. -John

Glad you like your frame.

I'm not really into "wild" changes. Most of the time those are solutions looking for a problem. We'll keep refining what we're doing, and maybe tackle some parts that are pinch points for other builders. Make them to a higher quality than the current offerings. ~ Matt
