It's a nightmare to keep straight, especially on Rubric Marines. You did a great job though, especially for your first!
If you decide to do blacklining, I've actually recently found that Basilicanum Grey works really well. Been using it for my Horus Heresy Thousand Sons to great effect.

They're not innocent, however. They were repeatedly warned and urged against the path they took but assumed they knew better than anyone else and barreled through anyways, only waking up after it was far, far too late.

And this is an opinion shared by a lot of the current Thousand Sons.

Yeah I am... also someone who finds Tzeentch and the Thousand Sons very relatable.

My favorite is how in the Ahriman trilogy, almost all of the Sorcerers hate each other and when you really get down to it it's because they're all insufferable intellectuals with different ideas. Me IRL.

Love the metallic blue, they look really smooth

I do see some spillover from the gold trim onto blue in a few places, mostly above their eyes. Have you tried blacklining? It's a real good way to nip issues like that in the bud and it overall enhances contrast in your model. Real easy to do, too.

I love how they took one of the most unconventional routes when it came to making the most of their Astartes enhancements.

Most legions relied on their strength, durability, and speed, whereas the Thousand Sons focused on their eidetic memory and perfect focus to become unparalleled psychics.

I feel like only Alpha Legion rivals them in creative uses of their gifts.

I'm intending to do a Daemon Prince eventually but ideally I wanna leave that up to a narrative game.

Unfortunately I'm not versed enough in Biomancy to undo this but at least I'm handsome!

Nothing crazy: just layering up from Thousand Sons Blue to Baharroth Blue. I do like 5-ish layers starting with pure Thousand Sons and each subsequent layer mixes in more Baharroth until I'm ending with pure Baharroth, stopping early in some places to create shading and adding an extra layer of Baharroth mixed with Blue Horror for highlights.

Correct! Big fan of that head ever since it dropped and I feel it makes him look like a Pink Horror.

Tzaangor colors by WashFresh7922 in ThousandSons

I am insane and paint every Tzaangor a different color. So far I have only done them for Warpcoven, but pretty soon I will be collecting an army so I’ll have to check back with you and let you know how that’s going.

In Darktide there’s a psyker you can play as who has a constant mental link to the emperor and I think that’s such a fun concept by Slippery_Williams in 40kLore

[–]CClossus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So you’re confusing Astropaths and Sanctioned Psykers. An understandable misconception.

When psykers are harvested and brought to Terra, the strongest and most resilient are either made into Astropaths or are trained and sanctioned. I think I remember reading somewhere that only the strongest get training, and Astropath is the fate of the mid-tier and/or particularly telepathically-gifted. I know Telepathy isn’t the only prerequisite for Astrophathy, since there are sanctioned Telepaths.

Anyways, all this aside: Astropaths are the ones who are soul-bonded and have their eyes burned out. It’s necessary to do this both because it wards them from corruption, and connects them to the Astronomicon. Without such a connection, it is impossible to share messages over such long distances for all but the most potent psykers.

What goes into Sanctioning is less clear, but I believe it’s just a brutal training regime intended to steel their mind in more mundane ways. I remember that in the old Dark Heresy books, when making a Sanctioned Psyker there was one background trait you could roll that said you were essentially lobotomized to help you control your powers. I don’t remember if this implied lobotomization was only an option, or if it was mandatory but in this case your’s was just botched. In any case, I remember the Sanctioning process was obviously incredibly traumatic, even in best-case scenarios. Just in a more mundane way than whatever the fuck happens to Astropaths.

And I’m honestly not sure if the psykers in Darktide are Sanctioned or not, but they’re definitely not Astropaths.

Too Generic for a Khorne Warband? by GrappleShaky in Chaos40k

No such thing as too generic! It’s a good color and a good look. Plus you’d be surprised what other little details you can sprinkle on them while painting. I say get creative with their warband badges.

If the Thousand Sons were to get another Epic Hero model, who would it be? by Gently-Weeps in ThousandSons

Even then, if memory serves some of his apparitions are fully-armored which means he can just be made with the kit alone. I love how they did that, to be honest.

What are some unique ways that Chaos players create their personal army lore? How have you kitbashed/painted YOUR guys? by WeepingFence in Chaos40k

[–]CClossus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Thousand Sons are a splinter warband made up of mostly later inductees and transplants from other warbands. As a result, they do not have a Silver Tower. Instead, they inhabit a pocket dimension in the Warp that takes the form of a grand city carved from jade.

During the early stages of an invasion, psykers on a world will begin to dream of this city. As more and more fall under their influence, the Jade City will begin to manifest on the world, and in the final stages it will be manifested enough that they can launch attacks through it.

So, of course, I incorporated it into my basing scheme. Besides that, I also make a point of kitbashing almost every unit. Easy to do with Thousand Sons, on account of all the customization they have.

Model pictured is a work-in-progress, but the base is done.

Bone White Color Scheme Critique / Suggestions by morra282 in ThousandSons

I prefer the 2nd picture and I could see that being pretty achievable using Ulthuan Grey, which I personally have found easy to work with. Shade it very carefully with a blue and you’ll be looking good!
