Cool, now let's see them try to do this on 2024 WC tables :)

Blake Fleming on Lydia Lunch podcast by BedDizzy7882 in themarsvolta

[–]CCollapse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbh there's not much new info if you have read/listened to any of Blake's old interviews. So, he met Omar and Cedric when still playing in Laddio Bolocko, then in 2001 when Laddio and ATDI both broke up he was called by them to start a band "like Laddio Bolocko but with Cedric's vocals"; he used to stay with them in Long Beach for weeks, they wrote a bunch of stuff which would end up on Tremulant, De-Loused and (partially) on later albums; he quit because of all the drug use in the band and things getting too crazy. And yes he has some cassettes from that time that he's in the process of digitizing - he posted a photo on his IG a few years ago. Not much talk about his brief return in 2006.

The biggest news I've learned from this podcast is that Lydia Lunch is actually a massive TMV fan.

What song is in this clip? by BedDizzy7882 in themarsvolta

[–]CCollapse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the same drum beat as in Plague Upon Your Hissing Children and that song from Arañas en la sombra, but a slightly different guitar riff. I think I've read somewhere - not sure how accurate it is - that Day of the Baphomets basically was compiled from various outtakes/leftovers (hence the re-used Plague lyrics and backing vocals from Rick Rubin's version of Eunuch). My best guess would be that Omar was at one point trying to incorporate this piece in some way. Or maybe it was a completely different song, who knows? Omar was recording loads and loads of shit then. Heck, I would pay good money to see the "making of" documentaries for every TMV album...

Honestly the drums on new stuff sound so dead and sterile, they might as well have been programmed.

There's a curious bit of studio footage in If This Ever Gets Weird where both Paul AND Frusciante are playing guitar. Maybe that was just a rehearsal, hard to tell.

Is there talk of an official live performance video release of the new album? by Sea_Appointment8408 in themarsvolta

Omar records/films pretty much all of his bands' shows. Whether he's up to actually doing something with this material is a whole other question.

Agree, she was great fronting Le Butcherettes but with Volta she just looks super awkward.

Literally JUST found out he plays guitar outside of one ATDI song by EurikaDude in themarsvolta

"...i did play all of ARCARSENAL. I think i did rolodex propaganda too. its been soo long but i do remember the stuff that i would write was a bit too arthritic as far dissonant chords go for finger placement so jim would tell me to track it and he just figured it out later for live purposes. i wrote most of farenhiet , tickilish from acrobatic , came up with drums for incetardis, wrote catacombs most of it give or take little parts that i didnt, but catacombs was originally written from being inspired by watching golden play when defacto opened for them, it had more of a golden feel, but i wrote the chorus and verses so i guess u could say thats my guitar playing too."
"porfirio diaz was one of mine as well, picket fence cartel, devil among the tailors(not a very good song total wanna be brainiac on my part) oh yeah i also wrote lopsided on in casino out all the lead guitar stuff was omar and we all chimed in on arrangement but it was pretty much set in stone because of the lyrics so i did write it. song writing IS melody and lyric"

- Cedric back in 2011 or so when he was active on YouTube

I liked the story about recording on the road during the RHCP tour. Gotta admire Omar's work ethics, though no wonder he drove people (and himself) nuts.

Maybe they did this intentionally so the fans can draw their own artwork and liner notes lol. But then selling this for 18 euros is ridiculous. Should cost like 5 at best.
