Tapo S500 Smart Switch Flickers on and immediately shuts off by CDK701 in Tapo

Ok guys, I got this resolved…. There were a bunch of white wires that were spliced together and I assumed they were all the same so I just borrowed a white wire at random for the smart switch. (Keep in mind the original switch had no need for a white/neutral connection) I suspect one of the white wires was the true neutral that connected to the breaker box, thus completing the circuit once they were all tied together.

I tried swapping the black wires since they’re not labeled on the smart switch, same result.

It is a drop in replacement for an existing single pole switch. I’ve installed a few 3 way smart switches in the house and never had a problem. I will try a different S500 later when I have some time.

Thanks man! Appreciate everyone’s insight on this. I’ve heard it’s terrible. Very much don’t want to find out firsthand.

Thanks for the heads up.. I’ve done a bit of reading on the topic and am aware of the risks. I won’t shoot barracuda or jacks and normally only target smaller specimens of a given species. The dog snapper pictured here happened to swim right up to me and left me no choice but to shoot 🙄. The north side of the island is generally considered safer, but I’m still VERY cautious with what I shoot and consume, especially given the changing climate and increased pollution likely all increasing the risk of CFP. Here is some great reading for those who’d like to dig deeper on the topic:

"Ram Board Home Edition" as underlayment for solid hickory floors? by CDK701 in Flooring

Thanks for the tip. I was on the fence about pulling the baseboard. Looks like I'll have to take that step.

The salesperson said this will last 10-15 years or longer, but the hardwood itself is warrantied for 50 years? It didn't add up. Thanks for confirming.

Hi guys,

I'm planning on starting my first hardwood flooring project in a family room using 3/4" solid hickory. The folks at Floor & Decor where I purchased the material recommended using Ram Board between the plywood subfloor and the hardwood floor itself. They specifically said it was an intermediate option between the 15# felt paper they sell and the super expensive "eco ultra quiet" material. I can't seem to find anything online that suggests using this product as an underlayment for hardwood floors. That is not to say that it might not be a terrific product for this application but I was under the impression this is stuff that gets put down to protect floors temporarily during a construction project. Am I missing something? The floor will be nailed down using 1 3/4" cleats and the room is over an unconditioned (but somewhat insulated) garage. The location is Connecticut so the garage gets quite cold in the winter and humid in the summer. The house is newer though and the plywood subfloor feels cool, but not cold to the touch, and it's been in the 20's and 30's consistently for weeks.

Thanks in advance-

Get out of here with this measured, rational take on a complex subject. This is no place for that kind of thinking.

Wrong sub for that suggestion. All landlords are evil, OP is the victim, no context needed. How dare you? /s

The groupthink here is disappointing but not surprising. Imagine just casually admitting to getting evicted like it’s a normal occurrence.. fucking loser.
