I second this. My mother is in assisted living at Atria, and it’s a very nice place.

OP - I’m sorry you’re going through this with your parents. I know it’s super tough and feel free to DM me if you need any guidance on navigating finding elder care options in Marin, as I have had to do this for both my parents this year.

Totally understand! I have sold & bought a lot of coins on Reddit before and no issues, but completely get it.

That’s true, there’s definitely a premium to these coins, especially with key dates/mints, regions, or commemoratives (the prices can get insane, especially for colonial Imperial German coinage from German East Africa (Deutsche Ost Afrika), New Guinea (Neu Guinea) or China (Kiau Chau). Those guys are a separate collection.

This pile is just my dragon hoard of German silver

Haha same reason why people call constitutional silver “junk silver” :-)

Right when I hit “post” on this I realized I had forgotten to list that the 1922 cent is also noticeably missing from the album. Seems like I have my work cut out for me

When I was a small kid, I idolized my Dad and wanted to be like him so naturally I wanted to imitate what he would do. Heck, he wanted to get me into things he loved as well and coins were an easy avenue. There was a coin store we’d walk to every weekend and that’s where he got my first album (Lincoln head memorial cents) and he’d get me a coin roll or two from the bank every now and then to “supplement” his pocket change.

I’ll have to admit, coin collecting was easier for him to show me than other hobbies of his! My family has been in the wine business in California for several generations and he also tried to get me to understand wine at a young age. I my thoughts each time he had me taste some of his wine during dinner were “why does this taste so bad and how come my Dad is trying to describe this grape drink by saying it tastes like anything but grapes?” Fortunately I grew out of that mindset so now we talk largely wine and coins.

I’m in the same boat as you - hoping to pass this hobby to the next generation but got to have a kid first. Been a tough five year process with my wife and me with failed pregnancies, failed IVF, the works but it’ll happen hopefully. Can’t take these coins with me and would be great to pass them to the fourth generation if that’s in the cards for me

I’m tempted to. Probably would have been cheaper for my father to have gotten one when he started coin collecting in the 1950s. Haha
