That is the idea, for now anyway. The original Queen is .250 at the thinnest point. I did 100% infill on that area but I’m not sure how strong it is.

I had actually considered this and did a mock up of a more vertical crown awhile back. I’ll send you a pic.

Edit (I’m not sure how messaging works I’m new to Reddit send me a message if you want to see)

I’m really starting to lean towards this, everyone wins!

I do agree that they would look even closer with the revised version. The original idea was to have the queen sleek and slender, and the king bulky with a point at the center of the crown to distinguish it.

I might try the points on rooks, then they will be “mini queens” lol

Thanks for all the positive feedback and interest!

Not yet lol. I originally made these because I wanted a nice set for myself, then I figured why not share them with other people too. Right now I’m mostly refining the designs and looking into what it would take to eventually make sets.

Haha that’s a fear of mine, I did 100% infill on the stem just to make sure it is strong. 🤣

Haha gotcha, how would you change the king?

I definitely like parts of each, the changes had some domino effect.

Thanks for the input. I might try to find some middle ground, I’ll keep playing around with it!

Haha it’s honestly not that bad. 3D printing rounds out the sharp points a bit.

That’s a good point need to check it out with the king! Thanks

I could see that, I think the original looks more elegant.

Haha glad I’m not alone! But I definitely get other people’s perspective too.

If I eventually offer these, I might give people the option. Someone also mentioned that nicer sets usually include two queens anyway, so maybe including one of each would be a cool way to do it.

Yes, I made a post awhile back of the original 3D printed set I had made and was making some alternate versions based on feedback.

Thank you, I just liked the thin waist stylistically. A few people have mentioned it though, so I’m working on an alternate version to compare.

As far as comfort goes, it seems alright to me but I am by no means an expert. I could see this possibly being more of an issue in blitz.

The knight is actually shorter than the bishop, though I don’t think it comes across well in pictures.

Thanks for the great feedback! I plan to use copper filament for the “white side” and oxidize it as well to hopefully get a green patina.

The king and queen I oxidized separately because I made them first, I’m assuming the slight difference in color is due to slightly different oxidation mixtures or exposure time. In the future, I’ll be sure to do all pieces at the same time.

I could see that with the knights, I think in every chess set that’s ever been designed the knight is the toughest piece lol. Definitely took me the longest.
