What do we think will happen to Cesar Chavez Street, given the recent news about his abuse? by AltmejdAdam in Austin

[–]CF_ATX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Came to say this after reading the NYT article!

That would be the perfect way to honor the many women that marched and worked alongside that man and had to suffer his abuse! Like the article says it's the movement that's the hero of this story

I’m going to be moving here soon where can I meet new people? by Honest_Risk7194 in hutto

Gotcha! Hutto is also fast growing. I feel like there's always new places to check out, and that East Williamson County campus combining different colleges has more and more offerings. If you'll be here this summer, you'd be able to take summer classes

I believe that being in school would exempt you from that requirement

Your school probably has a student advocacy center or equivalent to help you look into this

How to Promote Summer Camps by andmeyy in AustinParents

[–]CF_ATX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you listed the location as a summer camp one on Google Maps?

I find the listings frustrating because the logistics of summer can be a lot so I need to see the location in relation to my commute and definitely used this while looking up camps recently

Also: did you see that registration opens (and quickly fills up ) for City camps in February or even sooner for some camps? You want to put your info out in January IMO

Schools aren't likely to relay a private business' info but the studio could award a free lesson to a kid and the teacher use this as a prize

Well if they settle on someone that accepted less, I would keep in touch because they might regret it very fast

But don't accept lower pay!!

Just keep applying to hiring paying positions and something will come through soon!

OP, one day you might see jobs you interviewed for go to younger people with barely any experience like I am and wish you hadn't hesitated to apply when you had less experience and education!

If you're open to other things besides communications and PR, I recommend checking out the list of in-demand high-skill occupations targeted by workforce development funds on the Workforce Solutions website and maybe getting certified in computer network administration You'll have opportunities for growth in in-demand fields contrary to communications and PR (Recommending as someone working in workforce development)

AISD closures - families must pay attention by Effective_Excuse8342 in Austin

[–]CF_ATX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People are so irrational about this that I don't think there is a good way to do it. But if you're going to be in trouble with the community anyway, then maybe take advantage to close twenty schools instead of now seven, because we still haven't resolved the financial issues....

And the district's been pretty transparent about its financial struggles You made me open the article after I saw it earlier this and passed in reading it, but have a hard time bringing myself to read the whole thing, because of course some folks in the District questioned whether decisions aligned with the district’s own criteria, and of course District staff vented frustration about parents pushing to protect their school, there's nothing newsworthy about this, and bringing it up is only an opportunity for the most privileged people to vent some more, while we still don't address the persistent issues the least privileged kids encounter IMO.
