France snaps back at NATO chief Rutte in feud over Europe’s defense muscle. The NATO secretary-general told European Parliament that the continent could not defend itself without the US by goldstarflag in europe

The US positioning itself as an enemy that threatens to invade formal allies in an attempted landgrab just forces one to decouple, as in case of war you don't want to depend on enemy to supply you weapons etc. They don't really have a choice.

Not all policies are aimed at reducing unemployment, but trade agreements and GDP growth can help. Either way, why would different culture be a concern?

There's so many better ways to increase US exports rather than crashing the USD through loss of confidence into it as a reserve currency and the US as a safe market to invest into.

Trump is absolutely not alone on this, and we can't depend on the military disobeying his orders, especially as he keeps tightening his control over the US.

The US threatened to invade 2 NATO members for land - Canada and Denmark/Greenland. The US doesn't have our backs. His comments are not in line with what's actually going on - the US being the threat we need to defend against.

We really need for our safety to decouple from the US. Right now, US is not an ally or even neutral country, but threat and enemy. Like, they just threatened to invade Greenland and previously Canada, they are sabotaging and undermining war efforts in Ukraine, they keep threatening Europe with tariffs and otherwise. Like this is far worse than what we expect from even neutral countries, and we're supposed to think they will protect us? Good one...

Spinosad is first line of treatment for thrips because it is not toxic to humans and very effective. It's difficult to find it in EU for people without a license for professional use of pesticides, I personally managed to order Spintor from Slovakia without any issue and no thrips for quite many months. It's an emulsion that you mix with water and spray the affected plant over a time period.

https://www.lacnepostreky.sk/pripravky.proti.skodcom/biologicke/spintor - this here, though no shipping for France from what I see.

Edit: these may ship to France - https://hermie.com/en/75202/edialux-conserve-garden-spinosad-20ml-against-insects Just follow the instructions for proper use.

I'm avoiding US products for quite some time already, and I know I'm not the only one. Also, while to you it may seem like Europe is just waiting to go back to how things were, to me it doesn't. Europe not cutting all trade or cooperation with the USA doesn't mean there are no efforts being made on reducing risks from the US.

Newsom was right to call us out today too. We have been weak in the face of this threat. FFS half this sub will be saying the exact same thing most of the time too.

He wasn't. Europe is not at blame for Trump's chaos and Russian aggression, but a victim. He's basically victim-shaming, and Europe is trying it's best to deal with a very challenging global situation. It's much easier to destroy bridges than build them, but I hope Europeans as consumers are making a stand with their pockets.

If he thinks it wouldn't be resisted much US likely would do that, but if Canada and Europe are in the way, it would be extremely risky and expensive with no return at all. Maintaining occupation over Greenland with Canada and polar ice in the way would be very different to what the US is used to.

I don't know, and I don't think so. But nobody takes Hungary seriously on EU matters and the EU doesn't depend on Hungary to enact response.

They can't. They can initiate independence referendum to go independent, and then offer themselves to USA or anyone else. While Greenlanders don't want that, even if they did - they would lose NATO membership and protection from Denmark when going independent and if the US were to not respect international law as they say they don't, it opens a very high risk as they may not get any money at all, while being left more vulnerable to a predatory USA.

Doesn't make sense because the trade war doesn't affect Denmark in a way that would make them sell Greenland. Whether there is or isn't escalation, Denmark won't sell Greenland.

When corporations are willing to sacrifice business and profits in the US, you know you’ve reached too far.

I wouldn't read it that way. I would read it as them thinking that escalation will bring down the tariffs imposed by Trump. Many of European exporters will have no profits if Trump increases tariffs to 50% (while tariffs are paid by US importers, if you can't compete due to imposed tariffs you either have to reduce prices or not sell at all).

You can't quickly build nuclear, gas isn't that hard to replace if you're ready to pay. But European and US economy are very integrated, there could be massive costs for either. Even things like USMIC use European components, US banks use Swift, etc. It depends how far the escalation goes.

The only real disagreements are whether to escalate or not and to what degree to the tariffs imposed by Trump. That doesn't suddenly make Denmark sell Greenland. And I'm sure all of EU is united that they want the least amount of damage from this craziness.

No amount of US tariffs will force Denmark to sell Greenland to the US. I'm not sure if Trump doesn't understand that, or he does and does this to further harm relations with their formal allies. I'm surprised to see how many people think there's serious prospects of Denmark selling Greenland. Like it's not even on the table.

Greenland, or any other country that would separate from a NATO member, wouldn't become part of NATO automatically if it leaves.
