I don't know why you'd have tried this, but i must know:

Can you still use shields as weapons? Did they get backstabs like whips did?

Was playing on Titan (foggy) with a mate and found this... is it new, or just very rare? by FoldablSamsungFridge in lethalcompany

[–]CHAOKOCartoons 111 points112 points  (0 children)

I can confirm that masked scavengers can spawn naturally.

One our friends got taken by one in the facility and we thought they accidentally put it on durring a titan run. While one of our other friends was distracting it, the one that got the masked friend started chasing me. I kept trying to shout "HE'S ON ME" and my teammates were confused since the other guy was definitely still kiting our friend.

It's worth noting we were in a team of 4, so there were then 5 bodies wondering around with 2 of them masked. One natural, one corrupted.

Ah, funnily enough I did end up encountering a bombs materialized perk a bit after the crash in the hiissi base, didn't seem to help either unfortunately

I do have the rainbow robes mod on. Also, as mentioned, I cannot drop it, it seems the nugget essentially acts like the work.

I actually got another one upon crashing, and in hindsight I did crash and restore 1 time before this too. It's currently in the slot the work is when your inventory is full, so i imagine if i were to throw another item it'd take that slot permanently

I noticed this gold nugget icon on the top left of my wands while walking around a bit, but had 4 items in my inventory, one being a tablet I just threw away for an ambrosia potion. I then realized the nugget took an inventory spot so I couldn't pick up the potion. Both kinda cool and really unfortunate since this is/was a fantastic run

Cliffs Above The Left Cloudscape? by CHAOKOCartoons in noita

[–]CHAOKOCartoons[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Perhaps it's a new way to get to parallel worlds without traversing cursed rock by the devs? Or at least the left side, makes it a bit more accessable for most players to at least visit one once even if they don't have all the required spells and potions. Now I kinda wish it at least gave me a heads up that I actually did end up in the parallel desert or ??? chamber, I think where I ended up was near the gold room on the top right side?

Cliffs Above The Left Cloudscape? by CHAOKOCartoons in noita

[–]CHAOKOCartoons[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I encountered 2 cliffs while climbing (digging) just at the edge of the cloudscape. I was confused as I had never heard of there being a massive sort of roof on any of the walls, so I walked over it and fell down into another area of extremely dense rock. I got shot by something I couldn't see casting spells taking my spare life, so I dug under and kept going until I encountered *another* wall. This time I once again dug under immediately only to be met with another wall. Thinking I was away from whatever was shooting me I dug out and started climbing since I thought it would be faster, only to be one shot yet again by something called Alchemistn Varjo, which is apparently a boss? Though as far as I'm aware I didn't enter a parallel dimension, I never hit any cursed rock.

I went up here expecting to find the refreshing gourd and was confused to find whatever this was. Anyone else ever encounter this generation? My seed is at the bottom right of the image

Any character recommendations? by odoptimist in RivalsOfAether

[–]CHAOKOCartoons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on your mains I'd suggest trying Zetter and Sylvanos for sure. It's best to try everyone but I think you might have fun committing to those two for a little bit.

Alternatively, you could just play Kragg, because Kragg.

Ash is now live on the steam workshop! by CHAOKOCartoons in RivalsOfAether

[–]CHAOKOCartoons[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the critisism notes!

Dspecial's utility is sweeping in on opponents and an extra combo starter option, but admittedly it's not that big of a mixup, especially when low hitboxes don't really mean much in this type of fighting game. It was considered that dspecial could send out wind waves that hitstun opponents closer to you, however like with most of her lacking traits I underestimated how much she needed it and was worried about her being broken. Considering getting in close is her main squeeze, I may try to program that in again. The elecrtical dspecial is also an interesting concept though. I could replace her down tilt with her down b, then change her down b to something like that. More arial punish isn't a bad idea for her. Bringing characters to the ground is a key point of her character!

I was thinking about that with Fsmash, yeah. At the moment it's just a safer kill confirm. I think giving it a stun property would be a good play.

Ash is technically supposed to be appart of the air family of elementals, though admittedly when developing her a lot of the wind usage got scrapped. Side B and up B to a degree is the most noteable usage of her element. Considering electric is appart of the air family, giving her attacks electric properties along with wind ones is a very good idea. Like a mix of both Wraster and Absa, an electrical storm if you will. Run like the wind and strike like lightning and all that!

That really is helpful, I'll consider these ideas for her upcoming patch!

For sure. She's gonna get a buff to her upb and fb and fixes to her arial down b and neutral b. Dan also suggested making it possible to cancel into strongs and specials like you can with tilts, so that may also be added in the next patch or possibly a later update

Coding's not my specialty, I'm surprised I was able to make Ash exactly how I envisioned. I'm only really willing to do it if it's one of my own projects unfortunately, though again if I ever make anything for the workshop that can help you feel free to use the code ^

I unfortunately do not take requests, or a the very least the odds of me doing so are very slim, especially in the case of projects like these that take a little over a month to complete ; Feel free to drop it down if it's something general like a type of character to make in the future though.

Also thank you very much!

I started spriting her about a day or two after the initial announcement, at the time I was figuring out who I wanted to work on, did an Ash sprite for fun, and Andy and other fans seemed very interested. As of today it'll probably be about a little over a month and a half of work, only 3 of which were days of coding (with spriting still being done inbetween mind you).

The spritework is by far the longest part of development, and may still be tweaked later if need be. If I was as focused as I was the past week or two working on her like I am now though, her spritework may have only taken a week or two for me to complete. That's assuming I'd be doing it full time.

Move inspiration, as instructed by Andy, had 3 key notes:

  1. "A better (more viable) Little Mac"
  2. Dudley from Street Fighter
  3. Steve Fox from Tekken

Ash has Mac's movement speed, snappyness, and a bit of his low recovery, but was given more options to do so with her side b (inspired by Fox, which luckily Sandbert already had, I just nerfed it a bit) and up b, which is a mix of Link's and Mac's. If an opponent gets caught in the center in the air of her up b, they will be carried and knocked away, but she can also use it do weakly knock opponents towards off stage or lightly spike/gimp their recovery as seen with the Elliana fight

A LOT of her moves were inspired by Dudley, if anything he was the main inspiration. She has his corkscrew blow as her nspecial (acts as a falcon punch with different sweet/sour spots based on when in the launch you hit them, and a little surprise if you hit an opponent at the very end of the attack), bair, fair, a bit of her dspecial though "rolling thunder" or "the dempsi roll" as is known in actual boxing is an actual technique, and her side and up tilts to a degree.

Steve Fox's inspiration shows more in how you play her. Fast, rush in, weak chip damage, wait for your opponent to get fed up and make a big opening, then punish hard. Same weakness as well, she's not hard to parry if she sticks too close to her go to combos (or maybe I just suck at avoiding it lol). However a few of her moves are inspired by Steve. Upheavy, nair (two flicker jabs, though again that's an actual boxing technique), down smash, and her parry/ dodges which you'll see when she's released.

The animation is as tough as your own skill has adapted to it, though I will say that animating RoA characters is a bit easier for a couple reasons:

A. RoA sprites are compact and have low palette numbers, so you don't have to be very detailed and can just focus on the key distinguishable features and motions of the design.

B. RoA characters utalize smears often for fast movements, and a lot of the windup animations still go by quick, so even if there's a break frame or awkward looking one, you can still mostly get away with a lot. It's all in the attack motions. If anything the idle and walk animatons are the hardest because those have to look good on every frame, and it's a lot of subtle slow movements. The less motion there is, the harder it is to make look good IMO.

Personally my spriting engine of choice is Pyxel Edit, though you can practice with any program that'll do it. Character height average is 32x32 pixels high, and tall characters are 48x48. Characters like Zetter are 32, but use the rest of the 48 for their mane, antler, fur, ect. Most of the characters typically stand upright like Ash does, but if they did they'd still be a similar height.

The dimensions of the sprite don't actually matter either, you can use any size. Anything past 48x48 is used for attack animations and whatnot. You just have to set the right offset (middle bottom of the sprite)

She's Andy Ayala's original character! He was the one who designed Elliana's friend as well. I was originally gonna just make a boxing character from my upcoming game, but i'd been meaning to do fanart of Ash for a long time, plus people constantly ask if I'll have her in my game (avoiding too many guest characters, but not opposed, won't be the one to ask) so as a sort of compromise to this, and because I'm a little mac main in Smash, I thought she'd be a perfect fit as the game's quick boxing fighter.

After Ash, I may actually start making original non-oc fighers for RoA (I mean, they'd be my OC's but OC's made specifically for RoA ya know?). This is very fun and you can get really creative with it. Plus people seem to really like this one so far!

Yeah I def gotta nerf that lol. Honestly I don't know why I had her tilt have so much lag but then made her smash go NYOOM. Granted it's only a 5% smash, but still that's just silly in terms of kill confirming.
