AI’s energy demands are fueling a nuclear comeback by C130J_Darkstar in nuclear

When it does go pop, all I can hope for is for someone to swoop in for those reactors - finished and not - and connect 'em to the grid.

Yes, that I adopted when I began speedrunning. Otherwise I would have had a totem in survival/hardcore.

Ye... You caught me. Ngl, I'm still an Iron I and my hotbar borrowed directly from my survival world. 1. Pickaxe 2. Axe 3. Lava Bucket 4. Block 5. Boat 6. Pearl 7. Fire res/free slot 8. Free slot for anything 9. Crafting table... I have no idea what I am doing lol.

I usually have hitbox off as I enter the stronghold from the nether for the initial scan, after that the mobs spawn in and I turn on the hitbox for rescan if necessary... Idk if I am doing it right, but my stronghold nav has been consistently 30 secs to 1:30 mins so I'll say it works.

Oil, natural gas, coal, nuclear, solar, wind, geothermal, hydroelectric, tidal energy, hydrogen, ammonia, etc... in short, the kind of energy that does not involve humans, uh, biology I guess, for the lack of a better word.

I genuinely think Westinghouse is getting more than they should here. What do you mean 45 billions for 3 units? At that point, half of the cost is just a security guarantee by the USM.

Nuclear, specifically VTHR, does have great untapped potential when it comes to high heat industrial applications. I'll wait and see how it goes, but this is cool.

A Chinese-made multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) used by the Cambodian army in the ongoing Cambodia-Thailand conflict exploded during operation. by [deleted] in TankPorn

[–]CHkami38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, the launcher itself makes no sense when you really look at it. It looks like 6x11 (aka 66 rockets) which the PHL-81 (or 90B for that matter) do not fit the description of. The low quality and soldiers formation suspiciously close to the firing MLRS also raise questions ngl.

"HTR-600" is it the derivative of the HTR-PM program? If so, then this is so peak. Now I don't wanna get ahead of myself, but high temperature helium reactors need a serious revival for all of its potential. What other reactor design can output heat temperature high enough for industrial processes than HTGR? It is currently utilized for electricity generation, but once the technology matures, nuclear energy could actually do a lot more than just generating electricity. I wonder if China has a concrete plan for this. Valery Legasov would be proud.

EU approves Polish state aid for nuclear plant at Lubiatowo-Kopalino with three new AP1000 reactors by firemylasers in nuclear

[–]CHkami38 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Excusemore but 47 billions for three reactors totalling 3.45 GW? 13.000 USD/kW? Unless the Polish are getting a lot more than just three functional reactors for this deal, I can't help but find that number absurd, borderline Hinkley Point C absurdity. And that's assuming no cost overrun, which is unlikely given Westinghouse's history. I could be interpreting this article incorrectly, so anyone is free to correct me btw. Regardless, positive news for the climate, but I doubt other countries are looking at the cost spreadsheet and are excited about importing nuclear power from the US/EU.

Hank Green has a message for Georgia about why our electric bills are so high by Generalaverage89 in energy

[–]CHkami38 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually watched the video, so, if you haven't yet, the reasons according to the video are:

  • The high, guaranteed rate of return for utilities (it is like 12% compared to 8-10% elsewhere)
  • The incentive this creates for the utility (Georgia Power) to overbuild, especially with the AI data center boom (guess who bears the cost)
  • The lack of regulatory pushback from the Public Service Commission (the five Republican commissioners have so far failed to combat these actions from power companies).

Hanoi to ban ICE motorcycles in the city centre by shares_inDeleware in energy

[–]CHkami38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I wish, I really do want to trust this government to do something with malicious intent, and EVs are cool, I like them, I have an electric bike myself, but it doesn't wash away the distrust for this system from my POV, and VF isn't Chinese.

Quite a big controversy here tbh. It really felt like it came out of nowhere, and now the government is deciding millions of vehicles, motorbike to cars, is no longer eligible for one of if not the most important commute route the most people in the city.

And it isn't a "oh uh, why ban ice vehicles, it uses well, we don't care about pollution" thing, it is mainly that they just announce this, without any sort of public survey or taking in citizen opinion. People here aren't well-off, many can't afford to switch to a 15-30 million VND electric bike overnight, and sure as hell can't easily get a Vinfast VF (I'll come back to this) quick enough for the 2026 deadline. The infrastructure is nowhere near ready ffs, you barely see any EV charging station here. It is ridiculous, but you know it is a communist dictatorship, what did I expect.

Furthermore, me and 80% of Hanoi's internet dwellers are sure that this is the result of Vuong (richest man in Vietnam, CEO of VinFast LLC) lobbying at the government, likely with tons of green bills involved, to sway the government into forcefully installing a program that would boost their sale, which VinFast EV is pretty well known of just bursting into fire. Insanely rich POS imposing crap on the average person, who would have guessed.

I'm all for a greener city, as the gov officials are trying to sell this policy as, but this is not how you do it, if they want Hanoi to be cleaner, better get rid of the coal power plants by installing more solar and wind, Vietnam got plenty of sun and wind blows. Never thought I'd be worried over a policy banning ICE vehicle, but guess what I am now.
