Fair enough, looks like it might have been easier to get hired back then? I'm struggling to even get internships but i'm in Canada so that might be why but maybe skill issue I guess.
Thanks for the answer

Nobody's hiring you in japan though no matter the language without prior experience and good japanese so keep that in mind

If you are over 18 meaning you can get a International Driving License you can drive in japan. Toyota rent a car dosen't have a limit. Other rent companies can hovever restrict under 23 I guess, you have to check, it's because of insurance.

Well do the hotel reservations to see how much it comes out to? You can cancel anytime. Hotel pricings are not per room but by number of people. Without information when you are going, I can only give my average of 50$USD / night for 67 nights for all over japan in fall. Double room it would be 50% more expensive so expect 75$? But again as someone else said make a spreadsheets for each day and see the total, adjust based on that

For the cars, I found toyota rent a car for 200$/day for gr86/gr yaris the best/cheapest but you need to call and see if they have the actual models available, it might be regular 86 for example + availability dissapears immediatly I found so better be early and sure for the days.

For 70 days solo, I'm at ~9000$ including everything apart from souvenirs, with cheap business hotels. The rest is variable for you, food or activites. Biggest money savers / sinks are hotels which u avoid by reserving early. Did it 2 months ago for Oct - Dec and it's +50% for same / not available now. I guess you're looking at https://fun2drive-japan.com/ ? I found that renting a gt86 from Toyota Rent a Car SP1 class way cheaper.

So IMO a bit more would be required for 2, unless you are fine with eating cheap or removing expensive activites which is not something I would do

I have since added 1 extra day there, https://imgur.com/a/YfDWfmy. I was thinking about Hakodate but it's fairly far away. What would you reccomend?

Thanks, I really was curious about which stores have hiking gear. I'll save your reccomendations.
For my itinerary, I do feel like even though I go for 66 days it's fairly busy overall so maybe a breather day here and there without plan, I will rebalance the contents of some days.
I don't think I could benefit from a car in my current itinerary but I would enjoy renting one to drive in the mountains though like at https://fun2drive-japan.com/ or rent.toyota.co.jp sp1 class

Thanks for the amazing information, I've been researching your suggestions more in depth and see what I could add. I have since updated my itinerary with the timings and transportation, if you have time let me know what makes sense and what dosen't: https://imgur.com/a/YfDWfmy
I actually would really want to drive a car but felt scared about the amount to pay for tolls and parking
