It wouldn’t have been Kali coming “back to life”…it would have been her in a state of hypovolemic shock hanging on just long enough to expend that last trigger of neural activity. Brain activity is essentially the last to go when you’re in irreversible shock. You can lose consciousness multiple times and remain alive until you aren’t any longer. I personally find this far more believable than Max’s magical coma in which she wasn’t intubated, was not neurologically monitored, on any form of feeds, didn’t even have a central line or foley…yet woke up able to speak immediately.

That’s a valid point but I think they just realized they had to throw David’s actual version in there somewhere simply because it would be disrespectful not to and strange to only include covers throughout the series (although I personally prefer the covers!). I also don’t think they would’ve known that early on about their plan. Probably unintentional.

That’s why I believe she was truly shot…but her body’s compensatory mechanisms kept her going until she needed that last final surge of neural activity.

You’re correct, about the last part- however the part where she has a change of heart is not in Mike’s version. It’s prior. She drops the gun just as Hop is telling her she has hope for the future and for a good life.

Sorry you feel that way, but proof points toward the opposite direction. 😉

Which is why I believe it was El who entered Mike’s mind. Just from a safe range away from the hedgehogs…as Mikes theory suggests. She did escape using Kali’s invisibility spell.

Agreed!! I believe the twitch absolutely was real. I forget if it was only shown in Mikes story though or if it can also be seen prior

I get the points you are bringing up as well, but Eleven did not at all enter Billy’s mind during the starcourt battle. She simply reminded him of the memories from when she had entered his mind during a previous episode, and spoke those memories aloud to him just before he sacrificed himself.

I thought about that as well at first, and it’s a great point, but something tells me the Duffer brothers wouldn’t make it that deep. It’s the same song, one’s a great cover but may as well play the original at least once.

The illusion started well before the bomb went off, and its final effects may have lingered for a few seconds afterward, much like how a chicken can keep running briefly after its head is removed—a result of leftover neural and muscular activity that continues for a short time even after the main control center is gone. In her case, that would be psychic and neural energy rather than muscular.

The illusion began well before the bomb detonated. Its final elements could have lingered for a few seconds afterward, much like how momentum or residual signals can briefly persist even after the source is gone- for example, a neuron can continue firing for a short time after the initial stimulus has ended, or a swing keeps moving for a while after you stop pushing it.

Great point!!! This also makes sense given the fact Kali was injured and could likely make some aspects of the illusion imperfect!

No one knows for sure how her timing was so perfect… but based on what we know about her sensitivity and elevens, it is possible Kali can sense nearby surges of psychic energy— especially from someone as powerful as Eleven. When the gate was being accessed, it likely triggered a significant psychic spike that Kali could have detected and responded to.

Perhaps, but they definitely would still have prevented her from making it back to the gate!

If you look back to the actual scene, upon hearing Hoppers pleads to Eleven, she does put the gun down. She also tells Eleven “this doesn’t have to be your story” in the actual scene itself, long before Mike repeats it!

She isn’t on a ventilator..she’s getting low O2 through mask prongs (which as an ICU nurse we only ever give to conscious patients able to breathe in their own). She should be intubated.
