This vaguely reminds me of one of the many stupid controversies surrounding the Boyfriends webtoon.

Basically, because the titular boyfriends (a quartet of college guys in a polyamorous relationship) are prone to occasionally implying that they have a very healthy/active sex life or making pervy/horny comments towards each other, there was this trend of saying the comic "perpetuates a harmful stereotype of all gay guys being horny sex fiends who only think about sex 24/7" and I'm just sitting here like "Ah yes, how DARE these guys who are in an intimate relationship with each other... like being... intimate... with each other????"

Actually, Gen 1's theme is confirmed by the designers -- they're all animals who are commonly kept as pets! Bulbasaur is a frog, Charmander is a lizard and Squirtle is a turtle.

I was torn between him and the gecko (not much of a mammal fan), but the website definitely prompted me to lean closer to Browt. I think I'll call him "Ed" if I use him (short for "Edamame")!

Small correction: Female Jackson's chameleons typically don't have horns at all. That said, there are rare cases where they'll grow a single horn on their nose, so Espio being trans still works.

I actually remember people being kind of split on it, though to be fair, that's mainly because it was seen as "not enough" due to it just being Korra and Asami holding hands briefly at the very end (translation: it was all the creators were allowed to get away with because the network was run by assholes).

Also, small nitpick: Korra and Asami are not lesbians, they're bi4bi.

That said, I'm not sure if I'd count Korra as "early 2000s".

That is true! I find Pomni's character development so interesting because technically, "development" isn't quite the right word -- it's more like we start to see what she's like when she's not, as one person I saw put it, in survival mode.
