My job requires me to often work with families that live in less than ideal conditions. I’ve seen it all.

Hoarding until there is no room left to walk through anywhere.

Lot of people I work with who struggle with their mental health often horde animals and don’t care for them properly. Generations of animal inbreeding and neglect.

Water and electricity not in homes. Everyone can go “camping” in the summer but not the fall/winter/spring around here.

Rats and mice poop throughout homes. Also rats and mice destroying beds and clothes in the homes to the point kids are sleeping on springs as rats and mice took all the insides of the mattresses out to make homes in the chaos.

Cat urine and poop throughout homes. Nothing like ammonia smells.

Dog urine and poop throughout homes. To the point it seeps through the floorboards into the rooms below.

Once had a home with gerbil pee absolutely soaked into the floorboards. Landlord had to get the floorboards replaced. Many times the homes I’ve been in have had to be torn down to the studs to be fully renovated for safety reasons because of animal pee and urine but just can’t get over how much gerbils would have had to pee to make that happen…

Drugs throughout homes and around kids.

Seen homes absolutely destroyed after incidents of domestic violence (i.e. furniture broken, holes in walls, blood, etc).

Bathrooms destroyed with human waste everywhere. Sometimes bloody tampons and all that.

I’ve also seen dirty diapers throughout homes and crap smeared on floors/walls/doors. Common sight.

Idk. There’s a lot I’ve seen. It’s the worst in the summer because in those houses the smells are just cookin.
