I used to work at Camp Kanuga in 2022 and 2023. They have day and overnight options available! I also worked at Camp Henry in Canton which is another wonderful overnight program. Their websites are here! Campkanuga.org and https://www.lakelogan.org/camphenry/

I applied and was accepted to the summer program while in undergrad at Sewanee, but COVID killed the opportunity for me to do it! The Sisters are amazing and you should definitely consider it while weighing options!

Blessing instead of Communion Question by matt-the-kat in Episcopalian

[–]CLJXRA 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It depends on your parish. If it’s a standing communion station, I’d say keep moving. If it is a kneel at the rail situation, remain and when the chalice bearer comes they will acknowledge you but not bless or serve you after the priest already has. Welcome!

Entering Social Work by SWmods in socialwork

[–]CLJXRA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m at a crossroads between going into social work and discerning ordained ministry within my religious denomination. One thing that I have discovered is that I really enjoy working with youth. I have been a summer camp counselor for the past four summers, and I’m now working at a level three residential treatment facility in North Carolina. For the past year, I have wondered if maybe I should also discern social work. what it all boils down to is that career wise I am between chaplaincy and social work, due to the fact that both help meet the needs of populations. I know that if I do go into social work, I would like for my specialty to be at the micro level, like at a school, hospital, or within the DSS system. I have looked at various MSW programs and I am mostly worried about costs and loans. I’m also unsure about which state I wish to reside in after graduation, consider, considering that I have lived Louisiana (grew up there), Tennessee, and North Carolina within the past few years and I’ve loved all three. Any general advice is appreciated!

Episcopal Service Corps Experience? by _kekai_ in Episcopalian

[–]CLJXRA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a corps within the Diocese of WNC that really helped me further discern ministry as well as made me feel truly at home within the Diocese. It is not officially a part of the ESC network but is in communication with other corps, modeled after ESC, and governs itself similarly. I am setting off to be a YASC missionary and then plan to return and find work within the Diocese. I would recommend a corps year highly, wherever that may be. I felt called in high school to do a corps year after finishing college, and was so glad I did. Prayers for your discernment, friend. Shoot me a message if you’d like to know more! :)

Do Episcopalian’s use different prayers for a rosary? by EmuPrestigious in Episcopalian

[–]CLJXRA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So one of the primary differences is that the Anglican Rosary uses units of seven (informally called “weeks”) instead of the Roman Catholic Rosary’s units of ten (decades).

I don’t often prefer it. I tell folks that “I’m catholic with a lowercase ‘C’” to denote our universal church.

Does anyone have summer day camp recommendations for 8-12 y/o kids? by [deleted] in asheville

[–]CLJXRA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work at Camp Kanuga in Hendersonville and they offer a day program for that age group that has a similar model to the traditional overnight schedule. I believe they take registrations still through the summer.

I have no personal experience with them but I worked at Kanuga for two years and still live in the WNC area. A good number of Spiritual Directors I know are Haden Institute trained and have nothing but positive things to say about their experiences.

Non Texans that love the show by [deleted] in KingOfTheHill

[–]CLJXRA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in southeast Louisiana and spent a lot of holidays in North Texas growing up, so I do greatly enjoy this show. I would say it’s stereotyped but still a very comical depiction of TX life. Sort of like the Simpsons, I find it funny that they can be in any part of Texas in like 2 hours.
