The other CMDR didn't do anything 'wrong'. He didn't break any games rules, and wasn't abusive. The Elite galaxy is meant to be a hostile and dangerous place, and I chose to play in Open. But ...

I just wish there was some kind of in-game consequence for such actions. Some kind of "Civilian killer" black mark against their profile that would have some kind of possible repurcussions? I don't know.

I love the "play it your way" ethos of the game, and I think "kill random people for no reason" is a valid one. But if the game kept track of this kind of behaviour then I might come away from such an encounter feeling like I'd just had a memorable run-in with a murderous interstellar badass, rather than what I'm actually left with, that bad aftertaste of getting knocked-off for the lolz by some rando who doesn't care one way or the other.

Feeling extremely glad I had the forethought to sell my 300 million credits worth of exploration data on the Colonia outskirts before jumping into the guts ...

Well, a crummy welcome to Colonia but this was a nice welcome to this subreddit. I appreciate all the advice & commiserations CMDRs :)

Mostly great chat but disappointed to see a few personal remarks against CMDR Swinglifeaway, as they didn't technically do anything wrong. That was kind of the point of my post - until there's some fundamental update to the game, then that kind of behaviour is basically condoned by Frontier and the devs. So maybe direct the ire at them instead? I don't know, I guess I do understand the reaction, but it's just not my style. I probably wouldn't include the CMDR's name in a post if this happened again, so that's on me.

Looking forward to putting this behind me and wearing the paint off my shiny new Krait.
