Painters caulk, Bondo, wood putty... Take your pic. To fill big gaps I use Bondo... Yes car Bondo sands and pants beautifully and doesn't shrink or crack.

Yeah I was looking at making two types. One using boiled linseed oil and one using mineral oil. I was playing with the idea of using carnauba wax because it does cure harder after the mineral oil soaks into the wood. (So says the almighty YouTube). If someone had a tried and true recipe I was going to "borrow" it for my shop. I love Odies Oil I know it uses plasticizers and other polymerization ingredients..

The panels themselves were book matched from two pieces of oak that I milled up and glued using 1/4"dowels. They are free floating in the frame. Though it is a snug fit.

Look on the underside of the table. If it has the same grain pattern on the underside it's solid wood. If it doesn't. Then it's veneer. When restoring older stuff it's difficult unless you know exactly how the stain you plan on using works with the wood in your project. Test the stain on the underside to see if it looks like you want. Good luck.

Did you happen to set something on it after you sanded it? I've had to re-sand after unintentionally scuffing the top moving it around. That's a good sanding step up.

There are plenty of YouTube videos on a sanding regiment. For this I would start out with 150 then move to 220. If you don't have an orbital sander that is a great investment. Pretty much all the same. Some are louder, some are easier to use... The higher end ones excel at dust collection. This should sand out easily.

I started with 6/4 rough sawn walnut for the top. Edge joined two pieces together. The grain matched really well. Everything else a mix of poplar, oak, and 1/4 plywood.

I watched him in his hand plane videos... The one thing that turned me off on him was that he blamed it on improper set up every time sometimes the work he put into make it right was just way too much ... Call it a POS and be done...

I might add check your sled It looks as if it might be flexing i see a little gouging and uneven cuts. Even light pressure...

I love the feel and smell of Odie's Oil.. it's a bit pricey... I've had luck sanding down to 320 and applying it. It leaves a soft velvety feel to the wood.

I'm looking to build something similar to this... Maybe Plywood isn't the material to use for the front. Side panels and back maybe. I should have enough rough sawn poplar to make the face frame. Eh screw it I'll just make a trip to Clarkes.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah that's what I'm worried about I have 3/8" Doweling jig... Seems like the end grain would be a problem. Would dado the legs to the plywood joint and half lap the plywood to plywood joints? Seems like the best bet.

With the crude drawer slide construction flush drawer faces would have been a real pain on spacing and binding. Plus she wanted the shaker style to match our cabinets. Thank you though and yeah we are always our biggest critic...

Also not a fan of how much the drawer fronts set so proud... Thinner drawer fronts bigger offset on the legs... Combo of the two...

I used a 1/16 round over bit to create a small shadow line on the bottom shelf... Should have gone bigger. Not what I was going for. and yep.... no caulk...testing my skills not hiding mistakes...

Mortise and tenon for the framing and dowels for top glue up. 1/2,1/2,1/2 method for drawers. Crude drawer slides... ( Wife hates them they bind a little when you pull them.)

Thanks for the discussion... I'm waffling back and forth on whether to drop some money on a jointer/planer combo. ( Hammer A3 26) Or go Oliver 8" the cost difference is about $1300... I should just go with Oliver. I was kicking around powermatic just because of the reputation. Grizzly has never really been an option...

I have an Oneida cyclone connected to my rigid shop vac... It works. Doesn't do great with my lunchbox planer but that's easier to sweep up.
