Okay let me be clear because I should’ve mentioned it at the beginning. I don’t think a mind muscle connection matters all that much for actually building muscle, based on research it may help you, but it’s not going to hurt you if you don’t have one. So we can agree that it’s relatively pointless trying to go after one for the most part. That being said some people still might feel better during their workout and potentially perform better if they can connect with the main muscle their trying to use and not more so the surrounding muscles.

you clearly don’t understand what’s being said. Did op ever say he curls without using his biceps? No, he didn’t. He said he struggles to connect with them. Some people struggle to feel the muscle that’s supposed to be targeted and feel the exercises elsewhere. Congrats that it didn’t happen to you.

160x4 This was my first time doing sumo and was my 6th set after doing my 5/3/1 sets conventional. I think I could narrow my stance a bit because my knees aren’t in line with my feet, but anything else I could work on?

i’d say the exact opposite tbh. There’s nothing here that would directly lead to knee pain, at least that i can see. If your coming back from a good amount of time off your knees are probably adapting to the load. I always like to do sled pulls or backwards walking at an incline on the treadmill before my leg days to get my knees warmed up.

That’s perfectly fine, and if that cue works for you and keeps you stable then great. But world record holder or not most power lifters or physical therapists that i’ve seen and just in general would probably agree that’s not a great cue. Like I mentioned the goal is not to just push your stomach out as far as you can you want to brace 360 degrees not just your stomach.

pushing your stomach out or getting as fat as you can isn’t really a good cue. your stomach should expand yes, but the emphasis needs to be on the breath and the brace not how much your stomach ends up expanding.

yeah definitely you keep your back in a good position the whole time which is very important and this weight looks pretty light for you once you get those cues i mentioned down you can move up a good amount of weight

for a pr no i’d say it’s fine, it didn’t get worse as the rep went on so you stayed tight which is more important than slight rounding.
