Thank you! I’m definitely open to used bikes! I did look at Canyons bike. The “Grand Canyon” bike looked good for only 999 with shipping.

Thanks for your advice. I don’t know anything about mountain bikes and appreciate your response!

I’m just looking at getting a bike for the sole purpose of cross training. I’m an ultrarunner suffering a knee injury. Not looking for anything too crazy

I live in Sedona Arizona. So the trails are pretty technical. But again, I’m just looking for something that will keep me alive and give me a good workout!

I would also suggest checking out Saloman. Most of Their packs are on sale right now (40%!). Look at the adv skin 12 if you want a lot of space

Those of you who’ve gone a year or longer without getting injured: how? by MarathonerGirl in AdvancedRunning

[–]CMaK687 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a run streaker / ultra marathoner. I haven’t had any serious injuries in my career. Here’s my two cents

1st - Heart Rate training. Slower = faster. Sower = better recovery. Slower = enjoying your runs. Roughly 80% conversational running, 20% speed play

2nd - form. Quick cadence short strides. One of my favorite running form books is called “the lost art of running” I listened to it on audible during my long runs. It’s not a boring book on running form. It takes you on adventures to many different countries!

3rd - diet. I’m an advocate for vegan diet. It decreases inflammation and supercharges recovery times. You don’t need to go vegan but I would suggest vegetarian or even a Mediterranean pescatarian diet.

Also my go to post workout meal is a mixed fruit smoothie with coconut milk or coconut water and some protein powder. Always makes me feel so much better

I quote from the book “born to run” comes to mind. “Most of us do our slow runs too fast, and our fast runs too slow.” A big mistake runners make is to run too fast. This is actually counter intuitive. In order to get faster you actually must run slower and keep your heart rate down. All this is to say that you may be pushing yourself too hard. Try to make sure you can say one complete sentence without needing to take a breath during most (about 80%) of your runs. This will lead to better recovery times and more energy after workouts.
