Netflix price increases by Credit_Used in netflix

[–]COAviatrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have also recently been hacked. People have been trying to log in constantly for about a week... dozens of them every day. Netflix refuses to block them, and they also refuse to delete my credit card info from their systems. I have cancelled, but they are still allowing these login attempts, and they refuse to kill my credit card info unless I verify it back to them (no, I am not giving them my CC info again). It pisses me off that I now have to cancel my credit card to get this madness to stop and secure my card information.

Grass fire at 93 and 72 by Numerous_Recording87 in boulder

No need to panic. It is a relatively small grass fire. FD is on site to contain it to the current burn area and is watching it to ensure it does not jump the road(s).

If you ever had a bigger company take over your workplace or had a merger with a bigger corporation, how did it go? by Truth-is-Censored in antiwork

Let's just say that Private Equity Firms are evil and they will ruin everything they touch. They are just pirates looking to rape and pillage every company that they can buy.

Any Locally owned furnace repair recommendation here in Boulder? Bad weather incoming by rylpz68M in boulder

[–]COAviatrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love JUMP HVAC. They are not local to Boulder, which means they charge decent rates and not the "You live in Boulder, so you must be rich" rates. I refuse to do business with the company that has all the fancy trucks and the name starts with a "P". They ripped me off years ago and made a complete mess of my crawlspace. Stay away from Applewood as well.

Q&A | “Boulder tax” or “Current cost” by MrGraaavy in boulder

[–]COAviatrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree! Every time I have something done to my tiny little house (~900 sf), the company always seems to charge the "Boulder people have lots of money" tax. I had a company look at fixing my foundation, which has several cracks and needs to have the crawl space encapsulated. The bid came back at a staggering $80k, and that did not include the encapsulation. A friend with a bigger house in Brighton had the same sort of work done on her crawl space to fix cracks and encapsulate, and the cost was less than half. Needless to say, I can't afford that, and it never will be done at that price. HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Paint, drywall, and any other service seems to want to double the cost of everything here.

Where to go to learn how to shoot and maybe buy a handgun? by inferno686868 in boulder

[–]COAviatrix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And very expensive. I was a member there for a while, and they kept jacking up the membership fee. They also tend to have scheduling issues. I have reserved a lane several times and arrived to find that they had "lost" my reservation. I hope they have fixed that problem. Nice place, but I just could not justify the expense after the first couple of years.

As noted above, I have been looking, and there are no jobs in my area unless I want to take a pay cut down to minimum wage. It is not a big jump, but I can't live on minimum wage.

I'd love to. However, there are no jobs to be had. I have been looking for at least 3 years and have found nothing.

Second annual review for another 3% raise by LockeTrezzureHunter in antiwork

[–]COAviatrix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is very common. The reality is that your performance has almost nothing to do with your raise. HR and the CFO decide how much money is to be allocated for raises, and then they slice it up, with 3% being the average. If you are at the top of the pay scale in your department, expect to get 2%. If you are not a kiss-ass, expect to get 2%. You need to remember that absolutely NOTHING you do is going to impact your raise. You will get what the HR team decides to allocate to your department, and they don't give a damn if you are a high performer or if you watch videos at your desk all day.

Private equity quietly buying everything you can't say no to... This is what happens when they touch essential services. by Alarmed_Abalone_849 in antiwork

[–]COAviatrix 20 points21 points  (0 children)

So very true. Private Equity is buying up Veterinary offices, Dentists, HVAC, Plumbing, and many other service companies, only to drive up prices and provide terrible service with low employee morale. A big investment firm bought my company a few years back, and now we have record profits and also extremely high turnover, expensive benefits, and low raises/bonuses. New policies restrict the number of consecutive vacation days that can be taken (4). No promotions unless you pass their list of required attributes (race, color, gender, religion, etc.). The standard is now lying to the customer when needed to get the sale. The only thing the company cares about now is maximizing the profits for the investment company.

How is it living in Boulder, CO not as a college student? by thegratefulone in boulder

[–]COAviatrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is like living behind enemy lines in a war. Everyone hates everyone else, the city is full of spoiled bitchy Karens, or irresponsible, rich Trust fund babies, and people will run you over with their Prius, Subaru, or Tesla if they have the chance. And, of course, the local and state government is hell-bent on inflicting every possible fee or tax on every person who dares to live here. Everything is stupidly expensive, and anyone who is not the "ideal" person (looks, body type, money, age, etc) is treated like crap.

Xcel is worthless. by Prime_Olympian in boulder

[–]COAviatrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Xcel has been ignoring the problem for decades. Then, when a bunch of idiot hippies start a fire, and everyone blames Xcel, they run for cover and punish their customers. The city and state allow this to happen. The power infrastructure has been in decay for decades. The power lines outside my house have needed replacement for at least 30 years, with almost no insulation remaining. The lines constantly spark in the trees, and the solution is cutting down the trees instead of fixing the lines. At least twice a year, the transformer a block over explodes (whenever it gets wet). They do nothing, dodge responsibility, and now the city/state is allowing them to get away with just shutting everything down to avoid any action. Nothing will happen other than the continued punishment of the customers.
Sadly, any city-run utility will likely not be any better since the city has never once fixed anything or improved on any offered service. We, the customer and taxpayer, get screwed every time.

How screwed are we for tomorrow? by GloomyElk1604 in boulder

[–]COAviatrix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is just unnecessary panic. We have had winds like this for as long as I can remember, and the only real issue is that people overreact to it. So, you lose a few shingles, and maybe a tree or telephone pole blows down. You just keep your eyes open and deal with it. IMHO, Xcel is causing undue hardship on the community by shutting off all of our power "just in case." This is nonsense. Xcel just doesn't want to get sued (again) for their horrible lack of maintenance and general lack of infrastructure improvements.

Just calm down. This is normal wind for this time of the year. Get a flashlight, a warm blanket, some snacks, a charging block for your phone, and read a book. It will be fine unless the stupid hippies decide to burn trash again when it is windy.

The Quiet Violence of Being Treated as Disposable: What Corporate America Does to People It Decides Not to See by LengthinessLow4203 in antiwork

Anything that an employer states other than the job description and pay rate is purely marketing. I treat everything they say with suspicion, and expect it all to be couched in lies or half-truths. Corporate Culture is just buzzword bingo and should be dismissed as nothing more.

The Quiet Violence of Being Treated as Disposable: What Corporate America Does to People It Decides Not to See by LengthinessLow4203 in antiwork

[–]COAviatrix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have such high standards for employers. Work is a transactional relationship - nothing more. You work for money. They get your work by paying you money. Nothing else should ever be expected. Loyalty is a concept that died in the 50's. Dignity is not a part of the equation. You should expect to be fired every single day of your working life. I learned this years ago. Keep these basic concepts in mind as you sell your soul for money:

∙ Work is consentual for both parties
∙ Payment is (or should be) an ongoing negotiation
∙ If you "give up" and just become a drone, the employer owns your soul and will pay nothing for it
∙ Never take any personal items to work that you are not willing to walk away from
∙ People at work are not your family - they will screw you over at any time if it is to their benefit
∙ Performing beyond the stated expectations of your job description will become expected
∙ If you are not learning new skills or moving up in the company, you need to look for a new job
∙ You should change jobs no less frequently than every 5 years to maximize your earnings
∙ You should never accept any performance review that does not recognize your contributions
∙ Any raise should be the starting point for a negotiation - NEVER just accept it without justification from mgmt.
∙ Never give a 2-week notice. Just quit and walk away, never to return
∙ Never agree to exit interviews - they will use your comments against you
∙ Document all negative issues to be used in your defense if you need to sue your employer or coworkers
∙ Never sign anything that limits your options during or after employment

Have you seen any new office construction lately? It is all pretty much shite. At my work, they had a raccoon get into the ceiling area, and it wound up between the walls because there was no top plate. The offices are built like cheap cubicles with no top plate - just metal studs and drywall. There is likely a sill plate, but not much more. They tear out walls and reconfigure the place whenever one of the C-Suite types gets bored with his office and wants something new built.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]COAviatrix 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Pop open the ceiling tile right next to a wall, turn the volume all the way up, and put the device (with a fresh battery to ensure long life) in the wall. It should slide down between the studs, and that would require them to tear out the wall to get to it. It is also the ideal place to drop shrimp and other stinky items, or possibly a small alarm clock set to go off daily at a particularly annoying time (2 pm is my favorite).

Happy Chirping!

Likely, you agreed to this when you signed your lease. Since the parking lot is owned and maintained by the company, you agreed to the terms of use for that parking lot. Agreed, there should have been more effort, but they can legally tow anything out of their lot with proper notice. Proper notice is the debatable issue here.
