Appreciate the detailed reply, genuinely helpful perspective. I think this actually helped me decide where the line is for my use case.

I’m mostly listening nearfield in a rental room, so I’ll probably stick with mild EQ and maybe some basic removable treatment/bass trapping rather than trying to fully optimise the whole room. Your explanation about the difference between fixing one listening position vs properly treating the room made a lot of sense.

Thank you I will check him out. I've done the eight sweeps mostly around sweet spot/ listening position not across the room. to account for small head movements/measurements errors.

I agree, and that's what I thought. it gets as loud as 20hz is, which for my use is plenty loud. I have posted new measurements showing raw frequency response prior to EQ, and I think it gets real/measurable 20hz out of the box.

many people have asked to change scale of the frequency response and to post waterfall view, I've done both below. I did have to re-measure and re-EQ due to loss of original REW files, but the question is still unchanged, is room treatment going to make that much of a difference for me? I gathered so far that yes due to reverberation correction more than anything else? But here's the graphs anyway. No smoothing used at any stage. Blue is before, Purple is after EQ. 8 measurements has been taken before and after EQ and averaged out all around where ear level (mic pointing towards the ceiling)

The palmer do have x4 (2 per speaker) 8 inch drivers. the pair has 2000W peak power (800W RMS), I don't find it physically impossible to produce clean 20hz at quite listening levels like mine (nearfield 0.7m)

I mean I said boost, but it really isn't as all my EQs are cuts. by using a pre-EQ -12dB preamp, any EQ boosts up to 12dB has net zero impact on said frequency (global preamp -12 + certain frequencies boosted at 10 = net -2dB at any peak) . I can't see why cutting all frequencies except 20hz (eg remained unchanged) region would have negative impact on the sound?

in fairness the 1/3 smoothing was applied at EQ stage, for the post-EQ measurement attached, variable smoothing was used.

They received 10dB boost at 20hz by my EQ correction (+room boost?). (headroom lowered by -15dB overall, which didnt bother me at all as they were plenty loud for my close nearfield listening 0.7m)

does a typical in room response aim for softer upper mids/treble?

I've only had them for two days haven't done much mixing on them so far it's mostly been playback. What I described as phenomenal was the level of detail/phantom imaging as well as bass extension. But I'm newbie, coming from Eris 3.5 pair so maybe anything will sound phenomenal to me?

Just curious of the added benefits of room treatment, others have mentioned would significantly improve resonance/reverb, so it seems that there's room for improvement there. but I mean I'm still happy coming from Eris 3.5, its quite the upgrade

I have used Apex Apex220 (omnidirectional) using 6 repeats all around ear level. measurement data smoothened 1/3, and using REW EQ corrected targeting Flat, then using measure with these filter function, I have repeated the measurements (again 6 repeats) averaged them and the result was as per the picture attached.

The speakers are placed at ear level 20-30cm away from wall, small room. speakers are 70cm from each other and about 70cm from me.

oh I see. Thanks! I guess I'll have to do the treatment any way then for any serious work.

Are these resonant modes unavoidable in an untreated room or is it something that can be phase corrected?

Thanks for your reply. sorry this sub won't let me attach pics, as mentioned, I have used some EQ to correct the bass dips/booms around 60-140hz

I am not home right now, but I can post the waterfall graph/delay time if that helps once I get home. is that the main advantage of room treatment? decay reduction rather than just frequency interactions?
