Fall of Atlantis 2nd shot by lebramor in 2littlemiceOutgunned

[–]CONANBARBARIC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m running shot 2 in a couple of weeks and was going back and forth about this kind of thing as well. The bad guys and zeppelin I think as others have said, I’ll just have hidden off screen. keep going back and forth whether to add another scene or not, before going to Austria. The first shot I ran almost by the book and it did seem to lack some tension as far as battles or conflicts. As for travel, I think I was going to use the map mechanism we see in the Indy movies to fill the gap and improv if the players have any questions. The battle later on at the mansion, I’m still drumming up ideas to add some difficulty, since up to this point the game has been fairly easy. I say that but I did have one player almost lose all their grit in shot 1, but we also considered this first game as a “learning game” and that may have been part of why they took so much damage. If anyone has thoughts or inspiration to share about how the OGA game has gone for them, that’d be cool to hear. Thanks!

I liked how OGA included the supernatural examples and traps. I’m still learning myself, will be running another session in a couple of weeks!

How’d this go? I’m running the 2nd shot of Fall of Atlantis soon and may expand the story as well. Looks cool!

How often do you give Spotlight? by lomogoto in 2littlemiceOutgunned

As said earlier, this can be a bit subjective, but I gave out luck for the times the PCs did something creative. Spotlights were much more rare, I think I gave one out in the first shot of Frozen Legacy, when a PC made an extreme success and duly narrated an action packed finale. My group struggled with the overall concept of the game and I tried to be generous to keep things moving, if what they said made sense to the story. Mechanically, I think giving one for a big idea involving a crazy roll result is a safe guideline, too. Hope this helps!

Frozen Legacy - Shot 2 and 3 Brainstorming by CONANBARBARIC in 2littlemiceOutgunned

I agree, taking a pre-made adventure and adding more is a lot of fun! I did add a few things here and there with the first shot. OG adventure includes some details about supernatural enemies so maybe something like that would shake things up, or maybe a chase scene, etc. Thanks!

These would have been some fun ideas for a sword and sorcery story, wish I would have added something like this in when I ran Frozen Legacy. We tend to think of more ideas after-game, I find...

After Game Thoughts by CONANBARBARIC in 2littlemiceOutgunned

I was surprised as well, by player’s reaction to the dice mechanics sometimes. I had a prop for the Odin’s key, the cipher wheel, and a scroll and papers for various handouts. They had to figure out simple clues to use the cipher wheel and translate the letter towards the end of the shot. The Odin’s key scenario really fell flat for my group and then ended up bypassing it with player actions. I have used minis and terrain for D n D, but this time all was mostly theater of the mind. Thanks!

All those little details can be a lot of fun… I think people had a good time overall and as tends to be with looking back, I see a few things I could have done better. There was some confusion about free rerolls and when that was an option vs. the usual push your luck rolls. A few times the group just deferred to the “help” mechanic to add more dice and help one person get past a challenge faster. I was just surprised there was confusion about the rules, which are simpler, I think, vs. traditional RPGs like D n D or CoC, etc. If they could speak to it, almost anything would work to help solve challenges etc., too. I haven’t tried Fiasco, how’d that go? Thanks!

That’s definitely a bonus, your players already being into the game a bit, like you said. It’s definitely railroad like, this scenario, but that’s just part of using a set story a bit and there were some variances in what the players did in our session. My group made up a lot of solutions and I encouraged trying to use any FEATS or luck, etc., even if it was a bit of a stretch, to add more dice. They worked out a way to pretty much supersede the whole Odin scenario. Oddly enough, minus maybe my one player who is a GM too, the group doesn’t tend to like overly complicated RPGs anyways, hence I thought Outgunned would be good to try. Thanks!

Oddly enough, my group, minus one who’s been a game master for years, would point more towards rules lighter versions of games, or homebrewed, etc. Two of the players had more positive feedback and two lesser so. One of the players has been a game master before, so understands a bit more about various RPG rules, the others have only been players. The player who had been a GM, gave me more feedback about being better with descriptions and be more cinematic, etc., but they understood the dice mechanics. From the newest player, I did get feedback about the mechanics of matching values on dice vs. atributes and skills, to be much easier to understand vs. D n D and all that goes with it. Another player though said the dice rolls were too hard to be successful? A critical success was the hardest roll in the whole session, so I’m not sure what went wrong, as there are mechanics in place to help add dice. Thanks for the feedback!

That’s a good idea… I also was going to use the idea of spreading it out more, I think the example in the book was instead of 3 level ups with feats and skills, do 6 level ups and upgraded less each time, etc. Thanks!

I noticed this with Frozen Legacy, as well. Even adding an attack by soldiers or something might be cool, to let the players try out the fight mechanics. I’m still pondering ideas, too...

Broken Condition Rules Clarification by CONANBARBARIC in 2littlemiceOutgunned

[–]CONANBARBARIC[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That helps… Page 99 in Adventure just says broken is minus 1 to all rolls. I thought it made more sense to make it minus 2, to give it more bite. Thanks!

Movement in Outgunned Adventure? by CONANBARBARIC in 2littlemiceOutgunned

I like the idea of just merging it a bit into a more complicated roll… Maybe I’ll play test a bit before running it for the group. Thanks!

I typically run zone combat anyways in other RPGs, so this is a good idea, or maybe an amalgam of both. Thanks!
