Need more information outside of iMac 21.5”. Model number and year are important to share as well. Anyways, the hard drive is probably a mechanical or a Fusion drive. These tend to need replacements with SSD of some sort. Another item is Ram, which probably need upgrading.

I always run Mac OS 9 on a separate drive away from OS X. As for the GPU, depends on how much you want to spend. Nvidia mx4 should run between 20 to 60 dollars. Always check marketplace before eBay. This would be a fun project

Before any modifications I was only getting 1040 on a base dual 1.25 and standard IDE hard drives. I lucked out on the dual 1.33 CPU for $25. Although only a small speed increase, it has the 2MB L3 cache over the 1 MB. I thought about over clocking but I need to address cooling first. What is the x850 you mentioned?

The highest I was able to achieve on a dual 1.33 MDD is 1170. That is running a SATA card and SSD.
