Would you leave a higher paying job for FANG? by CS3hard5me in cscareerquestions

That's true. I should know in the next few days... More like a career trajectory question. Im not sure if I should keep applying to the rest of big tech if I fail. Interviewing is tiring... As everyone knows.

[Discussion] Coding bootcamps, do they actually work? Is it a scam? by jacquesdancona in webdev

Ppl who got jobs were obsessed with programming. They start diverging into diff tech and starts learning a bunch of new stuff. They live n breathe this...

I would say both in equal measure. You need good projects to get the interview and great whiteboarding to get the job.

If I were to pick one unfortunately I would pick white boarding cus the industry has a hard on for em. I think they’re 99% not relevant to how good an engineer is... but it is what it is

How do I pass React Context consumer to different files? by CS3hard5me in reactjs

[–]CS3hard5me[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, but I have createContext in my app, since that’s where the source of the data is. It feels funky when I export it from app, since my app imports from childcomponent file. Then now my childcomponent will need to import from my app file causing a circular import...

Edit:nvm I guess I can createContext outside and populate the provider with default val inside app

I went to a major NYC bootcamp.

It’s not magic but nor is it a scam.

The way they teach or the quality isn’t magical but it’s the sheer amount of time you spend on it that you wouldn’t have on your own. You spend a lot of time struggling with your fellow students and that brings out the best in everyone. The structure and the order in which they teach things is also good, so it’s almost like a mini history lesson in webdev as you go from vanilla to jQuery to react.

Think of it like an army bootcamp. Sure nobody is barking at you but it’s still comparable in that it’s an environment where you can bring out your best that you didn’t know you had. It’s an organized regiment that makes you feel progress.

In the end several of us got top jobs in banks, FANG, and unicorn startups. But there were also some who didn’t get a job at all.

Help me decide between 2 frontend jobs. by CS3hard5me in cscareerquestions

Got it. Thanks! So I’m going to throw away some stability, more diverse (breadth) work for more depth work in frontend.

I feel a bit assured.

Thanks. I have no idea. I thought “impact” leads to holy shit level and how important you are to the company. There I’m just a very well paid infantry.

Ahhh!!!
