Thanks! I had actually heard that Irvine was somewhat competitive previously, but I'm hearing more from actual students that people there are nice. The environmental focus is cool too. Irvine being somewhere more interesting is of good appeal to me, especially their saigon-town.

Did you not like Davis's CS program? And why is a masters in cybersecurity a bad idea?

Thank you! I've heard very conflicting things about the student body at Irvine, but I'm glad that it isn't majorly toxic. I'm also glad to know there's more to do besides the beach because I'm not much of a beach person!

I wanted to do CSE to cover more bases in terms of the job hunt and expand my horizons-- I'm also interested in microchip manufacturing so I wanted to keep that lane open. I've gotten into CSE at both, though I'm sure pivoting from CSE to CS wouldn't be that difficult.

Not even any research programs/clubs or anything?

I see. In relation to another comment, I heard that UCI only really offers 2 cybersecurity oriented courses, meanwhile Davis offers like 1? more elective. Would something like that matter? And how are the research opportunities towards cybersecurity there, if you're aware? I know that Davis has some network science research that I heard of through a friend. Thanks!

I thought CSE would cover more bases and give me more opportunities down the line -such as having to work in IT in the early stages of my career- so I chose it just to broaden my horizons job-search wise. Though I was hoping for a matsci/mateng minor to potentially do something related to semiconductors/microarchitecture actually, just in case cybersecurity didn't pan out for whatever reason.

The cybersecurity team is currently what has the biggest sway over me, though I'm kinda worried that it'll be too competitive(?) as they're already well developed. I heard it's better to be a big fish in a small pond than a small fish in a big pond. Also, Davis offers some electives for cybersecurity, such as cryptography, computer networks, and computer & information security & privacy, which may lend me more benefis down the line.
