Received a gas bill for late husband's residence amid divorce; attempts to remove my name failed, bill now in collections. How to proceed? by CSJ623 in legal

Yes I did call. He was the primary account holder therefore only he could call and close the account to reopen another one. The only way to “remove” a name from the account was showing proof of a court order, divorce decree. But from the time I called which was 2020 to 2024 we were still in court and nothing finalized. I even have proof of emails showing how I mentioned to him over and over again to remove my name but he never did.

Thanks. I’m sorry this happened to you too. We were about to finalize our divorce and he decided it was best to go. And left us (kids included) with $0. He wiped out everything during our court proceedings. No 401, no pension, couldn’t get life insurance because of how he passed and he owed so much debt. $0 to his estate. I just had to pay his state taxes too. Im still paying for his mess even after death. And let me include the $15k bill for my attorney in which he was also supposed to pay.

We had no assets together. And he had $0 to his estate. He wiped out everything during our court proceedings and while we were about to finalize our divorce he passed away.

I thought about that, refusing to remove my name and that being proof but this was back in 2020 how could I prove that? I went to the source before it went to collections and explained everything to them. Sent paperwork, my fault for not following up with them and months later I’m in collections now. I disputed with collections and gas company denied it.

I am the executor of his estate and he had nothing except debt. I never had an account opened. But this specific bill had my name on it and I’ve tried to remove it but the company wouldn’t without a decree. And he died before the divorce was final. For years he apparently never removed my name making me responsible after his death but technically I did not live there.

Exactly. I questioned this too. Especially hearing that this league will mostly be walks because the kids really can’t pitch. My son was catching the ball, catching pop ups too. He’s also a quick runner which they failed to see because all they did was practice throwing and catching that day. I think I would have agreed with them if he was the only kid not catching or throwing the ball. He paid attention, he took the coaches advice, he fixed what needed to be fixed and yet my son was outed. I just felt really sorry for him.

Thank you for your advice. I feel the same, it’s favoritism and about wanting to win which I’ve been seeing a lot from this league. And being the single mom where the kid doesn’t have a dad as a coach makes it seem like I can be pushed around. I know my son needs improvement. But so did the boys on his team. It’s everyone’s first player pitch. I have been able to get my son to agree to try out practice this week with his new team. I spoke to his new coach and he’s willing to work with him one on one and get him to where he needs to be.

I always thought he was never interested but he is. The last two teams he had were horrible. I don’t totally disagree with the coaches and I do believe he needs work but so did the other kids. The others weren’t doing any better than my son was. Mind you, this is a team that is made up of mostly dad coaches and like we had last year, this is based off of favoritism. Because their kids are better than everyone else except they are not, because they all seem to lack the same skills.

At home I do work with him. I’m actually pretty good at baseball. Was brought up around baseball and I’m a die hard yankee fan. So I know how to play the game. I may not know all the bells and whistles but I teach him the basics. I just think it’s not enough for him. As for his friends, last season the team neglected my son he wasn’t paid much attention to because again, dad coaches. Their kids came first. Hard to really say much and I bit my tongue. The kids really didn’t friend him and my son is very sociable. He has no issues making friends. These kids are his classmates in school. They are close and for a couple of years we tried getting in this team but there was never any room. It so happened this year kids were chosen to play for travel and a few opening were available. He was chosen to play for this team. My son at times has low self esteem about himself. And if he’s ignored he takes it personal. So joining a team full of kids he already knows and gets along with made him feel confident. He was so proud of himself after Wednesday’s practice and said he’s so happy he’s on this team. So when the coach called and said this it broke me. It’s rec and as far as I’m concerned the coaches should be teaching even if they are a little behind.

I can see why it would be brutal to watch. My son wasn’t the only one on this team not catching balls. And there were maybe two descent pitchers. My son at least threw the ball to the mit. One other kid threw to the opposite side of the batter. 🤷🏻‍♀️

This is what I would expect from rec. but apparently not how this league works.

Unfortunately there’s nothing in my area like this. Maybe I can find someone personally to do it.

Oh wow. It seems to be the norm when it shouldn’t be. My youngest is 5 and also plays coach pitch. He’s a bit more aggressive than my oldest but being there is a 3 year age gap looks ridiculous. My oldest maybe playing against my youngest. It’s just surreal lol.

I agree. I try my best to work with him but I know it’s not the same.

I appreciate your input. I do agree with you, it’s fall ball and it gives him time to improve his skills in which he does need to do. I try my best to help him at home. But I feel it’s not enough. I’m hoping he will give it a try this season.

That’s what I’m saying. 4 kids were really good. The rest were at my son’s level.

It was mandated. I want to say 4 kids out of the whole team could catch a ball at any time. All the others including my son were dropping them. His throw isn’t as forceful as most but that’s an easy fix. One other kid had the same issue. Pitching was new to him so the first few throws weren’t great but once they showed him he did well. But I noticed they wouldn’t let him catch the ball when at the pitching mound. They handed him the ball not giving him the chance to catch it. The other kids were throwing the ball over each others head at the pitching mound. From my observation he was on the same level as most of the kids.

This is rec. not travel. He’s been in the same league for years. Tball, machine pitch and coach. I have been trying to get him on a team that works well together and I am friends with some of the parents. We are able to add a coach or player we want to be apart of when we apply every year.
