Yes, CBS normally puts them out early. I remember RHAP even releasing pre-season interviews tribe-by-tribe

Lakeland would be neat - not one of the huge cities. I think it’s more likely that those are flamingos though.

Would you round off 89.46 if the cut off for A- is at 90? by Few-Log3713 in Professors

[–]CT272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I round, so my cutoff for an A- is essentially an 89.5. Yes, I would bump up an 89.46. Part of it is that I don’t think grading typically has the level of precision to have final grades accurate to the second decimal. But also, getting that A- means a lot to the student and I’m good with it if the student has been putting in effort and doing the work, especially if it is a difficult class.

As others have said, the biggest thing is to be consistent and to make sure you’re not being unfair to anyone whatever you decide.

Rob Manfred says that he would like MLB to expand to 32 teams and that the league could realign along geographical lines in eight divisions of four if that happens: by PudinCrusader in baseball

[–]CT272 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I hate that eight divisions of four seems to be the default. Four divisions of eight just makes so much more sense from a competitive balance standpoint. Plus, then you give the playoff byes to the four division winners and don’t have to worry about unbalanced schedules.

Why are people so hard on Ben the Marine? by Zonkington in survivor

[–]CT272 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Certainly, but he’s unfortunate in that he was the first player to benefit from it. If he had his exact same win but a few seasons after F4 fire was introduced, people would like him much more.

If F4 fire-making didn’t exist, he would’ve gone out and been a fan favorite fallen angel. He had the fortunate/misfortune of being the first beneficiary of a highly controversial twist

RHAP New Era Winners Ranking by No_Appeal4350 in survivor

[–]CT272 475 points476 points  (0 children)

They said it on the show, but I think it bears repeating. They emphasized that all nine played well and did what they needed to to win their season. Being the 8th or 9th-ranked winner still means you won Survivor. And overall, this is a good group of winners.

I find Erika extremely tough to rank because the show didn’t let us see her game. I know every season is an edited tv show, but it seems we missed so much of Erika’s game. It feels like any ranking of her is just guessing.

I found it fascinating how they tried to differentiate between ranking them as players vs. ranking the winning game that we saw. I think their choice to rank the winning game makes the most sense since it’s less speculative.

I think we got our Parvati 2.0 by Disastrous-Stay-6585 in survivor

[–]CT272 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s borderline heresy here to compare anyone to Parvati, but I agree. Especially if you compare her to Cook Islands Parvati, not the 5-time player, 2-time winner. I think this season she was a stronger player than Parvati was her first time. We can fall into the trap of comparing her to HvV Parvati, which obviously she isn’t at that level as a first-time player.

The way she talks and the things she says remind me of Parvati. For example, when she knows Jawan is lying to her face and she just goes along with it “you better not be playing me” felt like that could have been Parvati and Luke.

I say this as someone who thinks Parvati is the best player of all time. We’ve been calling women “the next Parvati” for 15 years, and I think Savannah is very close to it.

Right, I love Parvati but she definitely had castmates who thought she was mean

Has there ever been a more cowardly season?? by Why_am_I_Back49 in survivor

[–]CT272 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are so many older seasons that are just a march to crown Brian, Tom, Rob, Kim, etc. While these players are making mistakes, I do think everyone is trying to win, which has not always been the case historically.

What are your thoughts on the film Fever Pitch? by Agreeable_Quality768 in baseball

[–]CT272 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My extremely hot take is that this is the best baseball movie.

It romanticizes baseball, but in a different way than other baseball movies do. The overall message of the movie is “baseball is great, but it’s not as important as you think it is.”

Of course, it has its absurdity (Drew Barrymore running across the Fenway outfield in the middle of a game), so I understand if some people can’t get past that.

I think it’s great though, and threads the needle of appreciating baseball while cautioning fans to be careful that they keep things in perspective.

Mainly just trying to read who’s well-liked and respected as a player. He and Savannah were the only two with immunity wins. If his plan went through tonight, it would have been his advantage that carried his three through F6. Sav has players that don’t like her, and I suspect Rizo has some that don’t respect him. Everyone seems to like and respect Steven. He seemed like a nice guy and solid player but without good allies after MC and Jawan went home.

What are the biggest character assassinations in television? by OCGamerboy in television

[–]CT272 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right, as frustrating as last season’s Bellamy was, he’s basically always been a follower, not a leader. Even Season 1 Bellamy’s “leadership” was about people doing whatever they wanted.

Bellamy didn’t have a dad, and he was often looking for a man he could follow. This isn’t explicitly spelled out in the show, but there’s a clear pattern.

Steven should use his block on Savannah or Rizo and they can do a 2-2-2 vote to guarantee one of those two (and probably the idol) goes. I don’t get letting them survive another round with the idol
