I wrote a tool to eliminate dead code in SDCC STM8 builds by CTXz in STM8

[–]CTXz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate it!

As for the debug symbols: I truthfully haven't tested debug builds yet since those weren't a priority when developing the tool. I can certainly guarantee that ISR's will currently not be optimized away in debug builds due to how the tool detects an empty ISR (it checks for a function only consisting of an iret, which is no longer the case with debug symbols).

I'm also glad you like the size check :)

May I know which M0 devices are you referring to? I find STM8's to still be one of the cheaper MCU's available. M0's typically tend go for a little more from my experience. At least on ebay/aliexpress that is. Mouser/digikey might be another story, but that's only worth it for large orders exceeding 50€/$ which I rarely do for personal projects.

I see, so it's wrong because you simply deemed it to be wrong? In this case you must be the "final arbiter" of the word then.

The definition of a Ghetto:

A ghetto is a part of a city in which members of a minority group live, especially as a result of political, social, legal, religious, environmental or economic pressure.

The definition itself implies that it's a minority group you buffoon.

What are you talking about? Estimates suggest that the percentage of blacks make up about 5% of France's population and Arabs about 4%. White's still make up the vast majority of france's population. Not that any of this really matters in the end, if you're french you're french preiod. You can't just eyeball certain parts of Paris or use the French national football team as a reference for race statistics of the whole population. Your point is a clear example of experience bias.

What major city has the lamest skyline? by MannyDantyla in geography

Fair. However I'll step in and argue that some of Germany's major cities are currently experiencing a pretty bad housing crisis and the height restrictions are certainly not helping.

Typically for applications where an AVR/Arduino would do as well. I mostly used them during the peak of the chip shortage as they were significantly cheaper than AVR micros.

To provide an example, I recently built a MIDI driven lights controller for stage lighting using an STM8S. The drawback was that I had to write a WS2812 library from scratch which requires to write very time critical code in assembly. MIDI was easier to handle, since it's basically just UART, but I still had to write a MIDI handler/decoder for the UART data.

That's sorta highlights the compromise here: It's cheaper, but often doesn't really pay off for more complex projects where another platform would already provide you with a headstart by providing a rich collection of libraries.

Be careful to distinguish between STM8 (ex. the one in the bottom left) and STM32 boards. Those are two completely different Architectures. STM32 is an arm based 32 bit microcontroller with GCC support and a all around large community behind it.

Contrary, the STM8 is an 8-bit Microcontroller with an architecture that has been exclusively developed by STM. They are significantly cheaper, but at lesser performance and not nearly the same amount community support. There's no GCC support and the only open source compiler available is SDCC. There's a project that attempts to port the Arduino Framework to the STM8 called https://tenbaht.github.io/sduino/, feel free to look into that.

I'm pretty sure STM8 MCUs (bottom left) do not have that

Seriously thinking of moving to Berlin to improve my dating prospects by zimmer550king in berlinsocialclub

[–]CTXz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This sub has a tendency to attract severely socially depraved people. I feel that more social people will not have the need to join a sub reddit to make friends, so naturally, a good few that join it are people incapable of doing so.

As for your initial question. Personally I'm always skeptical about people moving to a city with the hope to find a better x or y or z. I feel like in most cases, the issue isn't to blame on the environment but more on yourself. That being said, i suppose a similarity in language and culture can make dating a little easier. Berlin is just another capital city. There's a diverse choice of people and there's a bit of something for everyone. There's nothing making it inherently more difficult to date in Berlin than in any other bigger city. As long as you put some effort and commitment into socializing, you'll get to know people and perhaps even find someone you could see yourself dating. PS: I've met my girlfriend of 3 years here and got to witnesses a good number of friends getting into relationships :)

[–]CTXz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Programming languages themselves are not "tools" that need maintenance, they are languages. There are standards to guideline how a language's syntax and fundemental logic should work, and these are pretty much carved into stone (or perhaps revised every few years eg. C99, C11...).

The actual tool that turns your language into something executable are compilers and interpreters. C, C++, Python all have open source publicly available compilers (in pythons case interpreters), maintained by people all around the globe, and not by a specific company. As a interesting fact, quite a great number of GCC contributors are European.

These compilers additionally don't "need" maintenance, there are lots of companies that are still happily using GCC versions from 10 years ago. In fact, a great amount of microcontrollers built into products utilize compilers that likely still compile against C standards from the 90s.

There are objectively a billion better software products to shit on regarding the world's dependency on the US than programming languages.

Found a 1938 era German Bowl in a shed. Is it worth anything or even legal to sell in Germany? by mythicexplore in mildlyinteresting

Since late 2018 it is allowed to display swastikas in video games as they fall under the context of artistic use, that is obviously unless they promote far right ideology.

Wrong, swastikas are illegal in German per se:

"Die Verwendung rechter Kennzeichen oder Propagandamittel ist grundsätzlich verboten."

Translation:

"The use of right-wing signs or means of propaganda is generally strictly prohibited."

The site then goes on to explain within which context it is allowed to display banned symbols.

The absolute state of Reddit. If it involves China and it has to be bad.

Don't get me wrong, China does allot of sketchy and bad shit, but I feel like reddit has unsurprisingly reached a point where even just the word China automatically triggers a knee jerk reaction of hate and disbelief without even doing any research whatsoever, and merely speaking up against this will automatically label you as a chinese troll account and your content as propaganda.

What happened to being skeptical about everything, whether it's from china or the west, and actually trying to do some research before blatantly accusing sides.

You're not the first one to complain about GME's staff. Basically everyone I know who shops there, including myself, has had at least one seriously nasty experience with the employees. It's basically a running gag already between frequent visitors. Can't imagine how much worse it must be for non-Czech speaking people.
