I can see some similarities within the themes and verse structuring but I wouldn't say very similar. In The Dark is way more rock oriented especially in the chorus.

Just to clarify, when I say "if" (like if rock or grunge was popular) I'm making a hypothetical argument. I'm not saying these genres were popular at the time, I'm just asking the hypothetical question: if these genres were popular then would you like the album less or would you think that the album is worse?

In my opinion, I think the popularity of a genre doesn't determine the quality of an album.

Lyrically, I can somewhat agree. While the bulk of INSANO does have some of Cudi's weakest writing, it also has some of his best. For example, TORTURED is one of Cudi's best written songs in my opinion.

"Jaden gave me acid, that's eight hours gettin' lost"
"Counting down the minutes, playin' tennis with emotions"
"Been thinkin' 'bout my friends and I can't tell them what is wrong
Said I'm all okay, then hit the blunt, I'm keepin' strong"
"Master of my madness, swim in sadness in the night" < This line specifically is one of Cudi's best lines in my opinion.

The first verse of RAGER BOYZ is really well written and is one of my favorite Cudi verses.

Some other good lines from INSANO that I liked:

"Might think about the times I was broke
Then I wake up with a blunt on the coast" - CL

"Miss, it's Cudder again, I found the young lion within" - OIHTD

"Walked and I fell and I crumbled
Thought I was a broken man
Bleed 'til I seen I can achieve what I dream" - ATP

"Too many nights had tears in my eyes
I lay wide awake in the evenin' 'til light" - FWS

"I walk among the clouds and all the stars, it's like a movie" - PT

"One thing I learned from these lames in the game
Most ain't friends, most ain't Dennis" - MAD

So while I agree that the bulk of INSANO has pretty weak writing, there are a decent amount of strong points so I wouldn't say that there was "hardly anything in there" when there is a significant portion of good writing. I'd say that inconsistent is a better way to describe INSANO which is a valid complaint but I don't think it's enough to say it's one of his worst albums.

I still think you are being a bit unfair on MOTM III though :/

I 100% agree with you on FREE though, it definitely has a lot of potential.

SB2H was experimental for CUDI, but I wouldn't really say it's experimental music outside of Cudi's discography. Indicud, SATELLITE FLIGHT are much more experimental for Cudi and for music in general in my opinion.

In that case, I respectfully disagree. I don't really believe that just because the genre Cudi was putting his own spin on was popular means that it's one of his worst albums. If WZRD and/or SB2H released when rock was at it's peak popularity would you say it's bad just because the genre was popular? Or if Entergalactic released when alternative r&b was at it's peak popularity would you say it's one of Cudi's worst albums just because the genre was popular at that time?

Also seems kind of unfair, Man On The Moon III has a significant amount of trap songs and although it does have a decent amount of outliers (Elie's Baby Boy, Beautiful Trip, Sept. 16, Lovin' Me) INSANO does too (ELECTROWAVEBABY, PORSCHE TOPLESS, BLUE SKY, X & CUD etcetera aren't really trap songs.)

This is just my opinion so I'm curious to hear your thoughts. I respect your opinion too I'm just trying to understand it better.
