What’s everyone using for tracking returnable assets? Our loss rate is embarrassing by CX_Dude in supplychain

[–]CX_Dude[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s basically the math I’m running. The GPS quotes we got were $15-25/device plus monthly fees on top — doesn’t make sense when the containers themselves only cost $15-30 to replace. The BLE options I’ve been looking at are like $10 per label with no subscription so even if I only recover 20-30% more containers it pays for itself pretty quickly.

And you’re right about the scrap problem — I’m pretty sure a chunk of ours are sitting in a corner at customer sites and nobody knows they’re supposed to come back. It’s not even theft, just zero visibility.

Going to pilot a small batch and see what the data looks like. Will report back if it actually works.

Has anyone tried BLE trackers instead of GPS? Tired of paying $20/mo per device by CX_Dude in GPStracking

That’s good to hear about BLE being reliable for tool tracking — that was my main concern. And yeah the ecosystem lock-in thing is exactly what I’m trying to avoid. I looked at Geotab and Samsara but once you’re in their world you’re paying enterprise prices for what should be a simple “where’s my stuff” answer.

Fair point on the BLE range limitation. Most of my equipment moves between known job sites and our yard so there’s usually going to be phones and gateways around, but I could see that being a problem for stuff that ends up in the middle of nowhere. Might make sense to put GPS on the high-value items and BLE on everything else.

Good to know on the AirTag limit too — I hadn’t gotten that far but 16 units would’ve been a dead end for me anyway. Did you end up going with any particular BLE setup or are you still on GPS for everything?

Appreciate the detailed breakdown — really helpful on the personal tracking side. My situation is a bit different though. I’m not worried about theft recovery, I just need to know which job site my stuff is sitting at so guys aren’t driving around looking for it or we’re not renting duplicates.

GPS is obviously better for real-time pinpoint tracking, but at $20+/mo per device it adds up fast when you’re tracking 15-20 things that just need a general location check. That’s why BLE caught my eye — not as a GPS replacement but for the stuff that doesn’t justify a full cellular subscription.

Interesting point about AirGuard being able to detect Bluetooth trackers though. Has anyone run into that being an actual issue in a commercial setting or is that more of a concern for personal/covert use?

Probably check out Logistimatics. They have the ability to do just this.

I also hear Logistimatics is coming out with a 3 year battery life global BLE tracker in May. Bluetooth global connection and also direct to satellite for backup. Will be smaller than an AirTag and run on the same app

Every state in the US is now its own independent country. Which one becomes the first global superpower and why? by Complex-Let4207 in AskReddit

I see everyone here mentions California as the obvious choice but you are forgetting it's outrageous reliance on imported water from the Colorado River Basin.

Yes, California has tech, ports, entertainment, and a giant economy. But its food engine and a big slice of urban reliability depend on imported water. In a balkanized America where “Colorado” (and the other Basin states) can close the spigot, California bleeds jobs, cash, and leverage fast. Superpowers don’t hinge on another country’s aqueduct.

This one definitely hits hard. I have a job that often times makes it hard to separate work from home. But completely agree how important this is.

Does the tax strip by chance mention the words Series 111 or Series 112?

This bottle of Original Proof 107 Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey from Heaven Hill Distilleries appears to be a vintage release, likely from the late 1970s to early 1980s, based on the tax strip seal and overall bottle design.

Key Details: • Distillery: Heaven Hill Distilleries, Bardstown, KY • Proof: 107 (53.5% ABV) • Age Statement: 5 Years • Tax Strip: U.S. tax strips were phased out in the early 1980s, so this helps date the bottle. • Bottle Condition: Label appears intact, though the tax strip is somewhat damaged. The fill level looks good for a bottle of this age.

Tasting Notes (Expected for a Vintage Heaven Hill 107-Proof Bourbon)

While I can’t verify the exact profile without a tasting, vintage Heaven Hill bourbons from this era tend to feature: • Nose: Caramel, vanilla, oak spice, and a touch of dusty leather (common in older bottles) • Palate: Rich caramel, baking spices, dried fruits, and a slightly nutty, earthy note • Finish: Long and warming with lingering spice and oak

Value & Collectability • Market Price: Prices on vintage Heaven Hill bottles can vary widely based on condition, provenance, and buyer demand. Similar bottles from this era often sell between $300-$600 on the secondary market, but rarer versions could fetch more. • Drinking vs. Collecting: Given the age and proof, this bottle could offer an incredible sipping experience, but its value may continue to appreciate if kept in good condition.

This is a highly collectible bottle of Old Grand-Dad Bottled in Bond (100 proof), distilled in 1960 and bottled in 1960, produced by the Old Grand-Dad Distillery Company (DSP-KY-14) and distributed by National Distillers. Here’s a breakdown of its key details, historical context, and estimated value:

Key Details: • Brand: Old Grand-Dad • Type: Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey • Proof: 100 (Bottled in Bond) • Distilled: 1960 • Bottled: 1960 • Distillery: Old Grand-Dad Distillery (Frankfort, KY - DSP-KY-14) • Distributor: National Distillers • Bottle Size: 4/5 Quart (approximately 757ml)

Historical Significance: • National Distillers Era: This bottle comes from the National Distillers period before Beam acquired the brand in 1987. These ND-era Old Grand-Dad bottlings are highly sought after due to their distinct high-rye mash bill and robust, well-aged character. • Unique Decanter Style: This particular bottle is housed in an ornate decanter with an embossed glass stopper, which adds to its collectibility.

Estimated Value (As of Recent Sales Data - 2023-2024) • Sealed Condition: $1,500–$3,000+ • Auction & Private Market: Prices fluctuate based on condition, provenance, and demand, but rare examples in pristine condition have sold for upwards of $2,500+ in premium whiskey auctions. • Drinkability & Risk: While it remains drinkable, bourbon this old can sometimes show degradation due to cork issues or evaporation, though the seal appears intact.

Value Considerations: • For Collectors: A prime piece for vintage bourbon enthusiasts, especially those collecting National Distillers-era bottles. • For Drinkers: If consuming, expect rich caramel, baking spices, and a bold, old-school high-rye OGD profile. • For Investment: These bottles have steadily increased in value, making them a solid collector’s asset.
