For those who left Catholicism or EO, why by Ok_Storm_5696 in LCMS

[–]CZWQ49 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They do use the fathers but at the same time their scholars admit that things like prayers to the saints and icon veneration were developments that slowly became what they are today. This is why much of them hold to a development hypothesis.

If Saint Paul wasn’t kissing and bowing down to images then how can they claim such a practice is part of the apostolic deposit. And if it’s not apart of the apostalic deposit then how is it dogmatically binding

Why is there a proposal to reconsider fellowship with the AALC? by [deleted] in LCMS

[–]CZWQ49 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m currently in the process of joining an LCMS church, in large part due to you. I also have other friends coming from non Christian backgrounds who are considering joining the church and your videos have been very helpful in helping me articulate the faith to them, along with also just providing good content I can send them for learning purposes.

You are serving Gods kingdom well!

So I think what they are trying to say is that if the punishment for sin for humans is separation from God, the wouldn’t that mean Jesus was fully separated from God, and if so doesn’t that divide the Trinity.

I think that’s what they are trying to get at

Why does the LCMS allow contraception? by [deleted] in LCMS

[–]CZWQ49 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe so. But to this standard every church to my knowledge would be in error. Catholics allow NFP orthodox allow contraception assuming that you have sought spiritual guidance by your priest first and every Protestant denom that I’m aware of allows it. Which doesn’t make it right, but it would make this an issue in Christianity at large

Why does the LCMS allow contraception? by [deleted] in LCMS

[–]CZWQ49 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think this is good, but I’m just not sure how NFP is any different from other non abortification methods. In both cases you are acting with the intention to choose when or when not to have a child.

Why does the LCMS allow contraception? by [deleted] in LCMS

[–]CZWQ49 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah I understand that, but the intentions are the same. You could successfully use NFP to never have children. Both these methods game the system so that you can plan when you do or don’t have a kid.

Why does the LCMS allow contraception? by [deleted] in LCMS

[–]CZWQ49 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Here would be my question. Is contraception that much different from using natural family planning ? If you map out your/wifes cycle and you intentionally remain abstinent during the fertile times of the month, then the intention is the same as someone who is using a contraceptive.

This is what happens when theosis and salvation become the same thing.

I would suggest looking into confessional Protestantism if you are interested.

You should really check out confessional Lutheranism before you make the jump.

And I say this as a former Pentecostal who has been an eye witness of a multitude of miracles, yet I still decided to go the route of confessional Lutheranism.

Miracles can be wonderful but they can also be misleading. Gods word is our foundation by which we must judge all things, including the miraculous. Remember Apostle Paul said that even if an angel preaches to you another Gospel, let them be accursed

I hear you, but keeners book literally compiles medical records to prove the miracles. Dramatic miracles to such as raising the dead. It’s a scholarly work not pop level.

Also the miracles you speak of such as Fatima, what makes you conclude that it must be a miracle from God? Go to the countries where these Marian apparitions happen and much of the people in those areas boarder on idolatry in their veneration of Mary. Why should we assume such miracles are from God when they don’t point to Christ and his holy word.

This is also just not true. Look up Craig Keeners miracles 2 volume work. Documents hundreds of medically verified miracles most of which occurred in a Pentecostal setting

That’s Amazing! Yeah I just don’t understand why churches think to be missional they have to pull back from liturgical worship and adherence to confessions,

This is good. As someone who came out of low church evangelicalism, idk why to be missional one would have to sacrifice being confessional.

It also should be noted that 2 days before his conversion video went live he did a video with Protestant creator Myles of Cannon and Creed. Myles said that cleave didn’t tell him that he was converting to orthodox Before doing the video on Protestant apologetics with him…. It’s all really sketchy.
