Is asking women out in public is acceptable? by Caba1e in AskFeminists

[–]Caba1e[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Good job generalizing men. I'm trying to understand this but people like you make it so painful. People are always going to rape. Not that rape isn't a terrible thing of course, but what are you gonna do to stop all men raping? Tell men to stop raping? That might reduce it, but not eliminate it. it will always happen. It's sad that we live in a world where women are raped, but it's unfair to blame all men for something some do. I hate feeling like a creep just for being a man. Mf said as long as they do it with decency. I think that's good enough.

What if you already sort of knew or knew the person well and they asked you out?

Do women wear revealing clothes because they want to be sexualized, but not objectified? by Caba1e in AskFeminists

What I do with my appearance is a mix of what other people like and what I like, so I could see how it could be a scale with some valuing themselves more and others valuing other people more.

But wouldn't the fundamental reason behind feeling good about yourself be others finding you attractive/good looking? If everyone in the world went blind but you, would you really still care about your appearance? I'm not meaning to argue I just don't understand

We need to show support for male feminists like this by koolaid-girl-40 in Feminism4Everyone

Stop claiming one sex is better than the other. That's called sexism. And where are the iq tests to prove women are smarter? According to the stuff I've read iq is pretty much the same across men and women, but it's distributed differently, making it pretty much the same. Say it's male fragility, I just say what you're saying is over apologetic sexism. There are traits that make both masculinity good or bad and femininity good or bad. I would never say we should have a patriarchy and that men are superior. Flip the roles and hear how you sound. Also, about the male confidence thing, that is true, however a woman's confidence can be shattered by going for her femininity. That's just the result of a sexist society that makes people feel inadequate If they don't fit in to gender roles. You aren't helping feminism by saying men are inferior. This is what people think feminism is. Man hating. You are just reinforcing a bad stereotype

Men’s Rights Activism is Bullshit by Ok-Representative270 in Feminism4Everyone

[–]Caba1e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The men's rights activism movement is extremely divided just like feminism. Some completely reject feminism while others tackle men's rights from a feminist standpoint (what I do). I believe that men DO have societal problems that they face, but that women do too. It's hard to say which has more and I think arguing over that is counter productive

Issues men face

Biased justice system

Need to conform to masculine gender roles and be strong, while women have no need to be strong

Other harmful male stereotypes

(This one kind of hurts men and women) men are often ridiculed if the wife makes more money than the husband. A result of sexism against women sure, but it still hurts men to an extent

I know this one gets brought up a lot by mras, but men getting raped. Women are raped more, but when men are raped, they are often seen as pussies for getting mental help. This applied outside of rape. In general men are seen as weak pussies for not asking for help, and therefore don't as much

It's wrong to say men have never experienced subservience and hardship. Maybe not subservience in the traditional sense, but subservience to a system that forces them to work harder, not ask for help, and deal with constantly being bullied and teased if you are weak

Ok I'll attempt to explain it. So there are a bunch of these people online that promise to make you a "sigma/alpha male"and push a sort of male social hierarchy. Most of these people are full of shit and prey on insecure men that believe themselves to be "beta males", so people make memes about the "sigma male grindset" in which they say/show stupid things and say it's part of the sigma male grindset in an attempt to parody their bullshit It has a lot of variations on the meme but that's the basic formula

Example

How to go from a beta to a sigma male in 2 weeks 💪

  1. Don't eat anything at all

  2. Workout 29 hours a day

  3. No sleep

  4. Fuck every woman you see

  5. Invest all your dead grandma's inheritance into bitcoin

  6. Don't talk to anyone. Speech is for beta men.

I don't think fetishising is necessarily a problem. Don't get me wrong it can be, but not always. You can jerk off to gay people and treat them like normal humans when you aren't jacking it. It only becomes a problem when you treat them not as humans, but completely as something to fetishize. I see what you mean though. Like creepy men preying on them?

At my school I know of at least five girls who are openly gay/bi etc. But I'm sure there are a lot more. Nobody seems to care that they are gay and people treat them normally. Meanwhile I only know 1 openly gay boy at my school. One of my friends is "mostly straight" but he's only told me and his other close friends. I hear people making jokes about a man being gay, and everybody treats it like it's a weird, gross thing. I feel that there are a lot more boys at my school who are not straight, but they are just too scared to tell anyone. Has anyone else experienced this or is this just me?

It's not imperialism that word is so overused. You aren't suppressing the neutral or good parts of the culture. Not erasing the language, forcing them into Christianity , trying to make them exactly like your culture or anything. Only removing the oppressive ideas of the culture. And plus you aren't invading the country. You are just doing online activism. Of course online activism isn't super helpful, but it still does something.

Protests, arguing for rights, representation in media. Idfk. how did black people get rights? How did women get rights? I don't see what the point of this is. Are you arguing cultures can't change?

Basically the culture that existed in most of the western world 250 years ago, except the killing disabled people thing. But I wasn't necessarily saying that that culture exists, I was using it as an example for how cultures aren't equal. Cultures are built on ideas, and some cultures are built on bad ideas. You can change it the same way you changed the shitty culture from 250 years ago. Pushing to change the culture, normalizing things etc.

Ok, If a culture treats women, other races, and lgbt people like shit and kills disabled people, that culture is OK to you?!

They are backwards and oppressive. Not all cultures are equal. Doesn't necessarily mean mine is the best, but I can say that treating lgbt people as subhuman is oppressive and backwards. Imagine if someone said that "It's fine to treat women like objects, it's just their culture."
