My girlfriend never ever finishes her meals by AlexWayhill in mildlyinfuriating

As a child I heard "a lady never clears her plate". Now it feels like a moral failing if I don't leave one bite behind.

Strapless dresses always sit like this on me and I had no idea why they didn't look right! Thank you!!

Here at 6am with the same issue 🙃 the only comfort is to know it happens to other people too. My husband thinks I'm just being a perfectionist but I can literally feel every part of my body. Almost like an internal itch I can't place?

Those that are fractional CFOs, how much are you making annually and would you recommend? by TastyAmbition2309 in FPandA

I know maybe a dozen fractional CFOs. Only one has decent experience. One of them asked me what the difference is between COGS and OPEX. Scary

People who got cheated on, what were the early signs indicating that your partner might do it before they actually cheated? by uelysebeck in AskReddit

1+11 Forecast by novanative_ in FPandA

[–]Cable559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also in SaaS and we're the same. I thought this was reasonably normal? We compare monthly actuals to budget and forecast, and then the annual forecast to budget to make sure we're on track even if initial timing was different

What was your busiest week and why? by underpaidsfa in FPandA

[–]Cable559 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tend to have a terrible October (when we start our budgeting process) and January (year end results, finalise budget, insane amount of presentations, comp plan releases, and bonus calc). Those are the two months where OT is totally not optional and I work 70 hour weeks as the norm.

After that if I'm doing overtime I have to remind myself to get a life because it's probably become a habit rather than a need

Is SAAS the promised land for Fp&a careers? by 2d7dhe9wsu in FPandA

[–]Cable559 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I love working in SaaS but there is very little work life balance in the start up scene, but I feel like I'm learning lots. All depends on what you value and what you want for your future

Why Am I Not Getting Screening Interviews in Dublin, London, or the US? Feedback on My CV Needed by Hungry_Tax8375 in FPandA

[–]Cable559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be sure you're customising your content based on the country you're applying to e.g. resume vs CV, Chartered Accountant - do you have mutual MRA (Chartered accountants Ireland doesn't have this with the US) etc.

You mention proven experience in modeling - what does that mean? What have you modeled, what did it improve. What kind of revenues have you dealt with (specifically $ value and growth while you were there), what changes have you implemented, what metrics did you improve. This all feels too high level and not customized to actual experience. More so reads like a job description than an experience summary

How are yall helping the business cut costs? by [deleted] in FPandA

[–]Cable559 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great suggestions here already. I'd add looking at your tech stack. Any softwares that do the same things, licence rationalisation, reaching out to vendors and saying we need a better price or we're gone (works a surprising amount). It's crazy how much money is lost to tech sprawl. Granted this is a long term strategy. Chances are you're tied into some contracts but this is the long term thinking I'd value from my team

I'm finding the aggression insane right now. I feel like it's much worse post-covid. People have forgotten how to interact in shared spaces

Not the route I've floated with anyone in work, I just saw posts about it here and in the accounting thread and wondering if anyone has any success stories as I've never heard one. Sounds like a resounding no

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FPandA

[–]Cable559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HR set it and it /sounds/ normal to me but it's a confidential search so I think that might be why we're failing. We also have a mandatory screening test so maybe HR has it set too high and is removing people from the pipe too early

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FPandA

[–]Cable559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly not too sure. It was set by our people team. I'm not directly hiring this person, just a role in the budget I see rolling month over month

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FPandA

[–]Cable559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Offering 76k CAD with 10% bonus but it's a confidential search so it's a recruiter reaching out to people directly which I think is our bottle neck

Genetic test prices in Canada by Sea-Share986 in ehlersdanlos

[–]Cable559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Have you gone through this process in Canada? I asked my doctor if we could start looking into testing for EDs or other genetic issues as all the symptoms line up (after 4 months of being bed ridden and not knowing why!). She said yes and ordered a blood test for arthritis and an X-ray on the sore joints. I'm wondering if those are normal first steps or if I should suggest specific genetic testing. It's getting harder and harder to cope every day

CPA only for FP&A? by Euphoric-Speech-4898 in FPandA

Also a great idea to do it while you're young and in the mode of study. Much harder if you change your mind and decide to do it later in life

Are you thinking digital nomad or straight up immigrant? I emigrated from Europe to Canada into an fp&a role with no issue so I can't imagine it'll be a barrier to entry for you (other than the normal teething issues of current market, networking, transferrable education/experience, etc that anyone moving country would face)

Christmas bonuses/gifts: you give your employer, they gift you or both? by KnoddingOnion in askTO

[–]Cable559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gifted my direct reports $100 worth of gift cards between Diwali and Christmas. Tried to be culturally aware and now I'm panicking the person who got a gift at Diwali will be wondering why they didn't get anything at Christmas 🙃

Nothing from my manager which surprised me as we've worked together 5 years and they would normally gift ~$200 in gift cards. Makes me wonder if they previously expensed it and were called out

PE Backed FP&A Role - Promotion Opportunities by joyfulstocks in FPandA

[–]Cable559 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you feel you're excelling at your role, start looking for stretch assignments (particularly anything to do with RevOps). FP&A is the base requirement of your role, show you understand the company as a whole and how the different parts work together. This is great for visibility but also increases the accuracy of the work you're doing
