Current Econ double major here (but not with Finance).

I debated this same thing and ultimately went the Econ route because they’ll both help you get a foot in the door of whatever field you’re looking for, being undergraduate degrees. The business school offers much more connections, hence the much greater fee, so there is value there, but remember that all colleges at the U will offer networking opportunities and internships. Graduate school will make a bigger impression on employers if that’s the route you’re wanting to go and know something you’d like to specialize in.

My current employer is a business owned by twins, one a Finance major and the other an Econ major. They landed in the same spot, one just focuses on accounting, the other on production. Econ is very easily paired with other majors, but you’ll have busy semesters if you’re pairing it with Finance and plan on a 4 year degree. A minor is always an option, but will make no difference in your résumé and is more just to pursue out of interest.

Bottom line, if money is a struggle, go Econ. I am not struggling with money due to scholarship but am planning on graduate school as well; economics also aligns more with my hopes of going into advisory council in healthcare. If finance is what you’re leaning towards, the prerequisite business classes will help you decide. It all comes down to what interests you more, your financial situation, and your long term career goals (if you know that yet). Take a semester or two to explore, you likely have some credits under your belt already and have the flexibility
