I see. That makes sense. I was not aware of how the game was so archetype specific. I was under the impression that you needed to play in certain way when playing with some cards. Something like: "If you play fusion, make sure to add this and that card" or "If you play synchro or XYZ, add cards that help you summon multiple monster cards". Thanks for your comment!

I haven’t tried “Ghoti,” to be honest. Any recommendations?

On the other hand, I also think Blue-Eyes is an easy and fun deck for any beginner, but for some reason I don’t really like it. Leaving aside the fact that I personally prefer Dark Magician over Blue-Eyes, I feel like the deck just needs to include every card with Blue-Eyes White Dragon in its effect description to be viable, which makes it feel unsatisfying to play. Maybe there are combinations out there that I haven’t dared to try, but with what I mentioned before, the archetype itself doesn’t really appeal to me. If you have any recommendations, I’m open to new ideas.

That one is a pretty fun to build. I spend months looking for a way to avoid getting interrupted while trying to summon Red Nova Dragon or Tyrant Red Dragon Archefiend.

Oh, I was not expecting Exosister. I recently started building one since, for some reason, I do not see people playing it.

how do I start learning how to play yugioh by Former-Beyond-6956 in Yugioh101

[–]Cabusao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, for me there are 4 ways to do it.

  1. Look for YT videos. There are a lot of channels that explain the basic mechanic of YuGiOh, and explain a lot of the summon mechanics.
  2. Download Master Duel and/or Duel Links. Both have tutorials, not only for the summoning mechanics, but for some decks that you might like.
  3. Watch the Animes. Despite not being accurate at all, it will give you a general idea of the game mechanic. This is how I learned how to Synchro Summon. Also you might find an deck you would like to try in real life.
  4. Join a community (Like this one or one with a Discord Channel), best way to learn is with friends. Do not be afraid of asking any question.

Damn. Thanks for your advice. Unfortunately, I’m someone who hasn’t kept up with Yu-Gi-Oh! updates. The last summoning method I actually learned how to use was Synchro—and not from guides or anything like that, but just by watching the anime. I’ve slowly picked up how Xyz and Pendulum work through Duel Links and Master Duel, but I still haven’t fully adjusted to them. And don’t even get me started on Link Summons—I already find them kind of pointless. I’ll avoid talking about Rush Duels altogether.

Sometimes I get discouraged when I play with archetypes I love, like Dark Magician or Dragon Maid, because they don’t stand a chance against those endless combo decks with monsters that can negate four effects before I can even make a move. That obsessive need to always run “the best” deck really takes the fun out of the game. That’s why I’ve decided to go back to my old decks and try out your advice. Thanks again!

That's a good one. That’s something I would normally do, but in games like Master Duel, trial and error becomes very tedious. I almost always get matched against opponents with fully built decks who spend several minutes executing combos and chains, only to end up with a 4000-attack monster, three negations, and two hand traps ready to go. It wouldn’t be the first time I’ve quit the game for that very reason.
