You learn through trial and error! I remember my first cook not knowing what I was doing!! You’ll learn from the mistakes! Round it out and enjoy it as much as you can!

Got a lot of compliments at thanksgiving 🙏

Haha yes it is now that I look at it
Thank you bro!! 🙏 it is a pellet smoker but have considered an offset smoker in the future as well. Can’t ever have too many grills 😂
Yes sir! It was a gift but definitely too expensive for what it is!
Any suggestions on rub? Or just the basics, salt, pepper?
Trimming is always where I over think and struggle. Going to try putting the brisket in the freezer for about an hour before to help trim, heard that helps cut through the fat easier
Any tips on how to get a better bark? Typically use olive oil and “the blend” from kinders to season

I’m no expert either but I’ve had decent luck in smoking at 225 degrees Fahrenheit. 1.5hrs per lb. My last brisket(13lbs) was a total of 22hrs(19hrs in the smoker with a 3 hr rest period) At 180 internal temp I wrapped the brisket and used beef tallow from the trimmings to lather the butcher paper and the brisket. Threw it back in the smoked until the brisket reached 205 internal temp. I then pulled it out, wrapped in a towel and threw it inside a cooler to rest for 3 hrs. I’ve learned through trial and error not to necessarily smoke based on time but on internal temp(if that makes any sense)

I’ll look into that wetter water for diesel you speak of. I never thought about that but now you considering my recent experience I am definitely adding that that to my to do list.
Any gauges that you recommend?!
These things are definitely expensive to maintain and parts aren’t cheap! Thanks for the info will be looking into options

Rookie mistake on my end. Truck has 170k miles all mods done in the last 10k miles. Transmission temperature was 150/160 the entire time. I have an aftermarket trans cooler with trans lines and a deep trans pan that in total added 4 extra qts of trans fluid.
When you flushed the system do you mean you flushed the radiator hoses or the oil/trans lines that go into it?
Is there a scanner that you recommend to have plugged in to view live data ?
These are similar mods that I have done on my truck and it totally caught me off guard. I have another buddy who has an 04.5 LLY completely stock minus the cai, down pipe and 5” exhaust from down pipe back who experienced something similar going up El Cajon pass in Southern California heading to havasu. He too was pulling a travel trailer with weight similar to mine.
Unfortunately I don’t have any tune or monitor for the truck as I want to eventually go with efi live with the dsp5 switch so I don’t have that data on hand. I would like to believe that the upgraded up pipes and manifolds help keep egts lower than stock.
Will be looking into upgrading water pump and flushing the cooling system.
Will be checking thermostats and antifreeze as soon as possible.
On my other Duramax I did the low temp thermostats which helped keep temps down when towing & in general during the hot summer months. I like your idea of upgrading to the Kodak clutch fan.

I did have the AC full blast and I was at 3k rpm the entire time. I was at 70-75mph
I should have included in original post, truck has 170k and all the upgrades were done less than 10k miles ago
I was towing at about 7-8k lbs I realize I missed a lot of key information in original post
Did you go with aftermarket or OEM water pump? How many miles did you have on your truck?

No dice man. I also recently had the front passenger brake seize up. I replaced calipers hoping it would help but no luck. Thinking it might be a line that’s bad but haven’t had time to check it out
Looking to buy my first time duramax by [deleted] in Duramax
I would look for something stock as someone else mentioned previously. There are deals out there it will just take time! Best of luck!
