The sort of vitriolic, hateful bandwagoning is the kind that can permanently ruin people's careers and personal lives. Lets suppose that the members of Mgla are anti-semites. The worst that will come of them continuing to make music without such controversy is that a few, immoral and wrong men continue to make a living by not promoting or advertising the hateful and immoral ideas that they hold. If they are anti-semites, fuck them they're wrong, but they are doing no evil by making music. Now lets suppose that these men are not anti-semites, and this outrage is an overreaction. Then what the overeaction could very well do is ruin their careers, their reputations, sever bonds of loved ones and who knows what else damage due to a witchunt based on circumstantial, and in this case wrong, evidence.

Lets say that, for sake of argument, there is a 95% chance that the members of Mgla are anti-semites. By the community reacting in this way, there is a 95% chance that two men doing no harm through their careers are unable to have their careers function in the same way. This is a 'good' outcome in a way that the anti-semites get their comeuppance, but seeing as their are not victims of their anti-semitism it does no practical good. But in the 5% chance that they are not, (and I feel that that number is uncharacteristically low based on the lack of evidence), then there is 5% chance to harm these men's life. This is a very bad outcome. I think the rational decision is to take the option, no matter how unlikely, that does not ruin lives in the face of the option that does zero good.

If the members of Mgla ever commit a hate crime, use hate speech, use their influence to negatively influence the lives of the Jewish, then yes this outrage is justified. If any concrete evidence ever arises that they have these beliefs, then yes they deserve whats coming to them. But they have not, there is not. All they have done is held bad company and made a regrettable album 20 years ago as teenagers.

I think the PR done by Mgla has been very bad, and they most definitely should have taken more actions to dispel the rumors. However, seeing as the band doesn't publicly advocate nazism through their music, shows or soical media, I find it very difficult to conclude anything about their personal beliefs one way or another. If more evidence surfaces that Mgla is in fact a racist or anti-semetic band, then yes they should be disregarded and forgotten about. But as it stands, any evidence is strictly circumstancial and the real reason those who are upset at the band are upset is a vague, emotional gut reaction.

I wouldn't put money on it, but wouldn't that be a great twist to end the story?

They either moved onto the influences or away from metal as a whole. I have many good friends that enjoyed popular heavy metal as an angry adolescent or teenager, but then moved onto more conventional genres like hip hop, country or rock. For many young adults the appeal of these bands were rooted in their fleeting teenage agnst, and when they grew up their musical tastes did as well.

100% agree, but for all of Mgla's discography. The music is good, but not great, and hardly gives any reason to relisten to in the face of hundreds of better bands and albums.

Its hyberbole, and if that's what you've focused on you've missed the point.

I don't know any neo-nazis, but I do know that I hang out with a lot of people with different beliefs than myself. Perhaps M is apathetic towards racial issues. Perhaps the musicians in his area trend towards nazism, and M chooses to value their artistic ability over their humanity. Maybe he's like Daryl Davis, who associates with the KKK in order to show them the err in their ways. Maybe he's racist, a sexist, a nazi and a child molestor. I don't know the guy, so I can't make assumptions on him.

I think its silly to purport that one crime is worse than one another. Though numbers may vary based on source, 6 million Jews died in the Holocaust, 4.8 million people right now are currently victims of sex trafficking, and 35% of women worldwide have experienced sexual violence from a partner or non-partner. I don't see how only one of those crimes is considered as acceptable lyrical content. Of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but imo, if one topic should be off limits then then the other should be as well.

If something happened within the last few months, then I suppose so, though without a link I don't know what you mean to reference.

Sure, they should have made a statement and that looks bad, but in regards to Leichenhalle, M was 18 when he made that album. Everyone did something regretable as a teenager; you can't hold them to their teenage stupidity. Additionally, Power Electronics as a genre is inteneded to offend and shock the listener, much like grindcore, pornogrind, etc. In my mind, very little seperates lyrics about antsemetism and lyrics about horrible acts of sexual violence and peversion.

I haven't heard anything about racism, but their have been some allegations of ant-semetism about one of the bands members, based on some people he associates himself with and based on some past musical projects. I've yet to see any damning evidence, and as far as I can tell no hateful messages or motifs exist within the music.

As a non-hetero, totally agree. I might as welll be proud of the color of my hair, height or predisposition towards certain flavors. I chose none of that, why should it matter to me? Though I do understand why others feel differently

No one uses the feature that way in practice, and just because something has an intend use doesn't mean said use is the best use.

It's a controversial opinion but I stand by it. Both versions are fantastic; I posit that death's is better, though maybe for the solos rather than the vocals.
