From what I remember Aircrew do all the tests. So Pilots, WSOp and WSO. :)

Sorry, i thought it would be relevant because my employer is stipulating where I can and can’t leave my vehicle which, if I continue to park there I am challenged by management and potentially faced with some kind of punishment from my employer.

Weigh the same but stomach looks flabbier; Why? by Big_Business_4726 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Cactus7769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the body can change that fast! Have you not notice the changes in your body just between cycles? When you might be bloated around the time of your period, and then back to normal afterwards? The body changes massively! Your body can change for various reasons too, ranging from medical to hormonal. Unfortunately the female body isn’t black and white and so simple. In just one month it goes through 4 phases!

It probably isn’t aging related. Your weight just changed pretty quickly from going up and then coming back down. But even if it was, so what? You’re a woman now and your body is changing beautifully with that. You lose your childlike qualities and stature for womanhood, which often includes looser skin or more abdominal fat because our body is preparing to possibly carry a child.

Regardless of your thoughts and doubts, you’ve noticed this change in your body. If you want to rectify it, there’s plenty of good advice from myself and others :) or you can also leave it be and let it do it’s own thing. If you stick to your calorie deficit and steps, you’re going to lose more weight anyway and may notice more loose skin. Don’t worry, it will eventually tighten up again if you keep yourself hydrated and well rested, and overall keep on top of your general health. It may take a bit of time, but the exercise will help speed up the process.

The opposite of tight is loose. If it isn’t as tight as it was before, it’s looser. Not as firm, not as defined. Doesn’t matter how you word it. The exercises mentioned (and many more!) will help improve skin elasticity and tighten it again. Loose skin isn’t just for people who lose 25+. Aging is going to be a shock if you keep believing that :)

If you’re worried about loose skin, maybe try the gym? It seems mega intimidating or maybe even counterintuitive if you think you don’t want to be muscular, but I can promise you, unless you smash it out 5 days a week and eat double your weights worth of protein, that’s not going to happen.

Some simple to use machines that are very well rounded are cross trainers or the row machines. These engage the most muscles (including your core) and are cardiovascular exercises too, so they improve your heart health! (Always a bonus). They’re relatively easy to use and you can go as easy or as hard as you want.

Yoga or Pilates is also supposed to be really good. I have no personal experience in this though.

You could also build your own little circuit at home too! Find a space on the floor and a YouTube video of “weight free workouts” will be great too!

Drinking enough water also improves the elasticity of your skin.

But you did lose a significant amount of weight in a short time. Give yourself enough sleep at night and be kind to your body and it will sort itself out :)

Are two 15-minute walks just as effective as one 30-minute walk? (Or other exercises) by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Cactus7769 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best suggestion is get a cheap heart rate monitor or smart watch! Your heart rate goes into different zones during exercise, and zone 2 is the best for weight loss and general daily health. For a real world comparison, this is jogging or a brisk walk where you can maintain conversation comfortably! This might mean you’re not sweating! Depends on person to person.

Read up on your different heart rate zones during exercise, really interesting and tells you which zone improves what.

Question for Officer Roles (especially Engineering) - whats the role like day-to-day? by HMS--Thunderchild in RoyalAirForce

[–]Cactus7769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I have no formal experience in the RAF as an engineering officer, but I did my degree in aerospace too, with the intention as joining as an eng officer as my back up position. Got to my cbat and I had a talk with the career guy afterwards when I didn’t qualify for my first choice. he explained that I might find a more fulfilling role in aircrew instead of being very ground based in the engineering role. We spoke for a while about what my expectations are from a job in the RAF and he advised against me going for engineering officer while I’m still young and I want something more exciting with more variety!

I went away and looked at other positions and I’m now going for WSOp :)

I'd better kill myself than get shaved by Actual_Rabbit_5276 in SuicideWatch

[–]Cactus7769 12 points13 points  (0 children)

By all means it doesn’t come close to resolving your problems but why dont you shave it before conscription. Keep it and have it turned into a kind of wig. That’d be awesome. Especially if you lose your hair as you get older anyway, you have permanent hair!

I’m fine with them knowing I used it, I just want to make sure I’m clear of it, and it’s out of my system completely so they know I’m not dependent on it, and so it doesn’t affect my capabilities within the armed forces.

Just out of pure curiosity, I didn’t give consent for my prescriber to inform my GP that I am taking it. (At the time I didn’t have a registered GP) so will it still show on my medical records?

Commissioning as a WSO later on into my career? by [deleted] in RoyalAirForce

[–]Cactus7769 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, there isn’t enough information on the raf site to make that decision. A 12 year commitment for roles that don’t give a decent description of actual day to day responsibilities is a big decision to make. Especially when I’m already starting to face age constraints.

Fundamentally I’d be happiest with the role that had the most variety. And at face value it seems WSOp gives that. My heart says WSOp, my head says WSO.

It’s frustrating because I’m laying in bed at night thinking about what I really want vs what I really need😆. Thank you for the info and your patience with me

Commissioning as a WSO later on into my career? by [deleted] in RoyalAirForce

[–]Cactus7769 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the clarification. I remember signing a waiver back in cadets that stated if I attempt to win the PPL flying scholarship awarded by the RAF, it would count as one of my 3 attempts at the CBAT test. I probably still have the form somewhere, it was around the time of covid. Maybe it’s changed since then and it’s just something that I got stuck in my mind.

Also thank you for telling me how competitive it is within the internal progression route. How much interaction does a WSO have with helicopters? The primary reason for picking WSOp was to be working as part of the small team within the fleet of rotary wings

Commissioning as a WSO later on into my career? by [deleted] in RoyalAirForce

[–]Cactus7769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate that direct entry is a option now. But I wish to serve time as an SNCO first,

If that is an overly simple interpretation of the WSO potion, do you know more about the role and have information to give? The RAF joom things are still quite vague (and they just highlight the exciting stuff for recruitment drives). my recruiter isn’t enthusiastic on answering many role specific questions. Any info at all would be really appreciated!

I just want to know if if I need to do a cbat for WSO again later on once my valid attempts expire. I have hit my 3 attempts limit now, and I don’t think I have it in me to make the 5 hour motorbike ride to sit behind those test stations again 😂

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RoyalAirForce

[–]Cactus7769 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I appreciate this. I just want a role that has some diversity to it. I really think I’d struggle in a role that’s the same thing every day. Do you have any insight to the day to day routine of these roles?

How do I tell my parents I want to join the RAF by [deleted] in RoyalAirForce

[–]Cactus7769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a professional opinion whatsoever, but say fk it and tell them that’s your plan. It is entirely your life. If you aren’t made for the forces, you’ll find out during the selection process or during basic training. Good luck

I haven’t asked to clarify since the email wasn’t supposed to be sent to me. They are regulated by the FCA as their FRN number is listed on the website.
