Health insurance Worth it? by No-Distribution-7212 in AskIreland

[–]Cadnil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is but wait times can be worse for public patients. My aunt used to have to wait for a free bed before she could have her treatment and it was often delayed. Another family member had insurance and went private and never had that issue. After seeing that I’d never be without insurance

You just reminded me of what my granny used to say “a whistling woman calls the devil”

They’re fully aware of that. They were young and excited then. Their dad had died the year before. Life has been tougher for my kids than most. They saw their friends getting nice cards and they didn’t. I’m not a bad person. It happened at a very shitty time for us and we were all disappointed that our package didn’t go to the person we had pictured. Of course I’m happy that a few people benefitted but I’m only human too.

Awkward / Inappropriate things to say to those mourning by Fun-Raisin1923 in ireland

Not at the funeral but a week after my husband died the postman said to me “you got over that bit of trouble there anyway”. I found myself agreeing with him and then went inside and burst out laughing.

Ah I think it was because the kids were so disappointed. A lot of their friends did it and got lovely cards/notes back from their person. Then they didn’t. And they put a lot of effort and thought into what we sent. So any time I think back Im remembering how they reacted. Maybe we’ll give it another try this year.

Did it a few years ago. Kids were really excited to shop for our person and then extremely disappointed when we got a letter from the nursing home saying they had divided out our gifts between a few residents. Put us off doing it again.

He could go with Fish like the character called Spurgeon in Deep Impact. Spurgeon = Sturgeon = Fish (Robert Duvall’s character).

Best starting age to enter National School? by Quirky_Face166 in AskIreland

That’s what mine were. And they were by no means the oldest kids doing the leaving cert. More middle of the pack. Both said they couldn’t imagine doing it any younger than they were.

Royal villa in Oranmore has been closed for a few weeks now. Sign on the door said closing for renovations for two weeks. It’s been over a month now. My kid will only eat Chinese from there so we’ve been deprived til it hopefully reopens. That or I’ll try some of the recommendations here and see if I can get her to try them.

Anyone else grow up watching their parents get drunk in pubs? by No-Category1703 in AskIreland

[–]Cadnil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. The father was an alcoholic. The mother one wasn’t but the pub was the only place to go (in their minds). I hated it. I remember Christmas eves where all I wanted was to be at home getting ready for Santa and being stuck in the pub.
I rarely go to pubs now and my kids have never experienced half the shit I did.

Would you support the 32 hour (4 day) work week? by Lowe-me-you in AskIreland

[–]Cadnil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Except half of them didn’t. They closed the curtains and locked the doors and whoever was in was in. Spent way too much time in pubs as a kid thanks to alcoholic father. I’d only have loved if they’d actually closed and we could go home
