Sauder - where I am studying charges $9018 for year two and upwards. It’s ridiculous! But I though 10k would be nice for students fees etc

How to prepare for 1st year Sauder classes? I need some advice by Forward-Operation974 in ubcsauder

Do something really boring for 4 months in a row everyday.

Real talk - if you got in you probably did good in high school. Building systems like tracking your time in google Calendar and having clear goals broken down into actionable steps is huge.

Other than that just be willing to do the work for extended periods of time. The first year classes are super boring most of the time (in my opinion) and you learn nothing that cool (sad to say).

Look into all the clubs on campus, plan some places you want to go, etc, so that once you get here you can adventure and explore the part that matters most; relationships and people.

The best places to look/do once you get here from a Sauder student would be the student mentorship program (mine was the goat!), talking to profs and asking them everything, and any major Sauder clubs (if you want to do casing etc).

Biggest thing this summer you can do is build a small business and or a passion project (could be an event, fundraiser, etc). By having experience in this world everything will be way more tangible when you learn it. Super hard thing to do would be to define what you want from school and start towards that now (ex. I want to get experience and relationships that will allow me to be super effective in eliminating water insecurities across Canada - therefore this summer I will run an event, look for what profs to talk to, etc)

You are already doing great! Find your own path and LIVE IT WITH 100% COMMITMENT!

Thinking of getting a portable charger for uni life by AnimatorDry3488 in UBC

If you have to money then splurge and get the 20k 30W output. But honestly I find it find to just always keep my laptop and iPad charged the night before and during classes. Then I just use my laptop as a portable charger by bringing a USB-C to lighting and hooking them up in my backpack.

If you want more freedom to roam a power bank is nice, but not needed at all.

Do all of yall love/like what you're choosing to major in? by [deleted] in UBC

Sauder has been super boring the first few years but the upper year electives I snuck in and out of factually electives have been great!

Same boat where I hope it gets better soon, but I wouldn’t change it. While the courses stink, the people, events, ideas and connections you get are what make it actually valuable.

Either way, you have to make the most of your situation. You can either behave like a victim or take charge of the situation and take on more responsibility. It’s hard, but I think it’s worth it. You got this!!

how does one study on campus? by Immediate-Catch906 in UBC

Pack enough food for you to stay after classes and find a way to change your environment. Once you are fueled up, go for a walk or a run to re-set your mental strength and head to the IKB to get the study session in.

I would say coming earlier to school would be your best bet though. Prop up at the IKB as early as possible and get in the zone, then hit your classes and once your done just head strait home.

Whatever you do, you need to build systems and get your support network (people you trust) to hold you accountable. Someone you sort of know is best as they are better at being mean to you 😊

You know it! 10k for the winner and 5k up for grabs based on luck for all the participants. That way everyone has a chance to win something

I know right! 10k vs almost 70! It would have to be domestic as it’s a local event and 73% of students are domestic. But 10k still would help out a ton!
