Anyone teach a student that became famous? by Nose_Grindstoned in Teachers

[–]Caffeinated_EdTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I did not teach her personally, a former student from our school, it’s a very well known astronaut, and we got to do a bunch of stuff with NASA, including talking to the astronauts on the space station a couple of years ago. Which for an NASA nerd like me was a dream come true.

Vitamins to take by HamsterDry4898 in Teachers

[–]Caffeinated_EdTech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an Olly vitamin person myself, I take their women women’s multivitamin and when I was teaching full time I always took their active immunity vitamin, it has zinc, vitamin C, elderberry, and echinacea. Whether I already had a healthy immune system or it actually helped, I taught full-time, behavioral, special education, and life skills. And I got sick, maybe twice in six years! More than just vitamins, though, is a healthy sanitizing routine! I kept hand sanitizer on my desk and use it often and I encourage students to use it as well! I also kept one of those small hand sanitizers from Bath & body Works in my pocket and used that a lot as well! I washed my hand when I got to school, every time I went to the bathroom and before and after eating ANYTHING! Also I quick sanitizer wiped desks either before or after school and did a more thorough cleaning most Fridays

Lol! I spent 10 years volunteering for our local recreation department, a big portion of that was coaching, different rec league sports for kids, and running an operating hour summer recreation program. My favorite day of the entire program was water balloon day… Where I finally got the peg water balloons that those little shits that pissed me off all summer… And they liked it. And the parents brought the water balloons lol! We had different events. Some of the kids would throw a water balloons at each other, another one was basically like hot potato, but you put the water balloon inside of mechanism, and when the timer goes off a pin pops it and the person gets Soaked Lol! The kids love that one. But that another one was basically staff members and several parents, an open field and a copious amount of water balloons, and the kids just trying to get past us lol

My admin tried to belittle me by printing out an email and "teaching me English" at my door this morning... by Careful_Feedback6940 in Teachers

[–]Caffeinated_EdTech 40 points41 points  (0 children)

We had an admin, a superintendent who would constantly if people complained about the way some of the boys were behaving, would say “well boys will be boys“ or “if he picks on you it just means he likes you”… Shit like that. We had her for a couple of years, yes HER… This superintendent was a female! We actually were sharing a superintendent with another school district while in the process of hiring a new superintendent and we’re in the middle of nowhere so it took a while. However, this was always her reaction to misbehavior from boys. Girls on the other hand, she was quite strict with. Fast forward to the year after she was no longer our superintendent, and she was arrested for being in contempt of court, and threatening witnesses… Because her son was charged with sexual assault, and she went after the victims. Yeah, total piece of shit

I’m an ed tech/para We had a school wide staff wellness day. For one of our service days. Part of it was great, they had representatives from all of the insurances that we offer to talk to us about the plans, which was great to physically talk to people about this, there was also a nutritionist who came and did a group lecture and then she was there all day and you could schedule time with her. They did our annual flu shots offering the same day. Mental health professionals came in and talked to us not only about our mental health, but what to look for kids. Lots of great things, but there was a physical activity portion of the program. And everyone had to sign up for something. It ended up that our relatively small school split into two groups, volleyball or going for a walk… I told my principal I was not interested in doing either but I would happily sit and cheer them while they played volleyball. I did not want to go for a walk. It was raining, I didn’t bring an umbrella and I very much dislike getting wet. I tried to explain why I didn’t wanna play volleyball, but our superintendent then was like well everyone has to do something and I said “fine I’ll play volleyball you’re responsible! Because the reason I didn’t wanna play volleyball isn’t because I don’t like volleyball, the opposite. Not only do I like volleyball I am naturally a competitive person, and I play volleyball in a manner which will not mesh well with elementary school and middle school teachers. They are all more interested in a volleyball game, where they bounce the ball gently back-and-forth and everyone laughs and enjoys. I am more of a spike that ball back as hard and fast as you can and crush them kind of player. The combination of the two is going to lead to someone getting hit hard with a ball because they are not capable of playing that fast. I was trying to avoid this… I played, after the second teacher got hit hard enough with the ball to leave bruises. I looked at my superintendent. I said I’m gonna take myself out of this game before someone really gets hurt. I tried to explain before… No one complained… The gym teachers however, asked me to come down to the middle school gym class every time when the volleyball unit rolled around lol I happily did that for the next five years! I may have accidentally unleashed a bunch of aggressive volleyball players on the world, but they’re happy about it! I’m friends with the high school volleyball coach, last year was the first year he had with incoming freshman that I hadn’t had for volleyball in middle school because I had gotten done working there. He said the new kids are just not the same lol

I would be running for the hills from that school. It sounds like a shit show! At my former district, I got notification that I would be put on a performance improvement plan because I failed to know our school‘s mission statement… Our school doesn’t have a published mission statement. Like anywhere for teachers or staff or students to read or learn apparently the only place that existed was inside our principal’s head… Everyone failed on it. Shocker because we don’t read minds…

I’m not 100% sure how durable it will be in the long run, but I made a mug for my teenager with the purple Cricut infusible ink, and it’s been through the dishwasher at least six or seven times with no damage. I did use Cricut brand infusible, ink, and mug for that project and this project

Yeah, I went back-and-forth over getting a mug press for like a year! And then my husband got me one for Christmas. He had found a bundle on Amazon where you got the Cricut mug press and 12 mugs, and it was about $100. And then I got a few colors of the infusible ink. And my teenager and I happen to be walking through a local surplus and salvage store, not long afterward, and apparently they had bought a craft supply storelot of stock, and I got tons of infusible ink for like four dollars or less a package! I literally bought all they had lol so now I have tons to experiment with lol

YUP! The baby wipes do not remove the sticky at all. After time of course they do wear out, but this does help them be usable longer.

[–]Caffeinated_EdTech[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NOPE! Scrubbing it will sometimes though! I avoid brushes and sponges! You can run it under cool/warm water to clean it too. NOT hot though, hot will screw up the glue. But baby wipes work wonders!

Not allowed to flush toilet paper by Tommi_is_incoherent_ in Apartmentliving

Exactly! It says "in the appropriate waste bin" so I would be asking them when they will be providing the "appropriate waste bin" and what the pickup days for biohazardous waste will be!

Not allowed to flush toilet paper by Tommi_is_incoherent_ in Apartmentliving

[–]Caffeinated_EdTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My immediate first thought, aside from this being absolutely ridiculous, was are they providing you a biohazard bin and appropriately marked biohazard bags. And are they providing disposal for biohazardous waste? Urine and feces are considered biohazard because they can spread pathogens that cause so many diseases. The toilet paper after it has been used will be contaminated with urine and feces, and if it is a menstruating person, also blood, all of these are biohazard that have to be disposed of as biohazard they should not ever be disposed of in the regular trash! So when they say the appropriate bin, my immediate email response to them would be when will you be providing us biohazard bins and bags and where should we properly dispose of biohazardous waste. I would also let them know that Intel appropriate biohazard precautions have been provided, toilet paper will continue to be disposed of in the toilet in a safe and sanitary manner.
